'Influencer' ganna told off big time when she asked for free shoot.

This is noting new, many local mums done this before, this technique looks like working great to them, able to get many photographers for free, only this one unlucky, kick on a iron board.

What the photographer said is truth, you give a free service once to such people, all their friends will come to you for the same thing, so what kind of business you expect to get from them? Not thing!

I like the attitude of the photographer . You need to respect the photographer who took good pictures for you . What i see is people now doubting photographer or trying to get discount!! When you engage the photographer, you just need to trust him that he can deliver the job. You made the choice, respect it .

Weird logic these cheapos have.... 42 likes .. I think the photographer has more then 42 X 10 likes just by posting that conversation.

Nothing uncommon. Just another story..... Too many cheapo around. They are always trying.

They won't want to pay because they couldn't justify the price or even the state of mind to pay for photographs. These are also the people who probably wont appreciate photos as well but just want the moment to be taken at that point of time when it's happening.

Most of them are people who still think or have the mindset that.. taking photograph is just pushing the button..a click after another. So why should I pay or Pay that amount of money to that person. Say the truth..most of the times they are the same people who disrespect or look lowly on the photographer/professional job. Period.

Wont even bother talking anything to them. They are just out to get a quick 1. When you start telling them the facts... they fight back. (eg in the link..post #1)

Same type of people who after you do free, they bitch about you and complain about your photos, then laughed at your stupidity.

U got bitch when u provide free service? That is sad.

If photographers don't have any self-respect, what is there to expect people to respect you as a photographer?

Where is your dignity?

Lotsa examples here over the years. But people keep doing it.

sadly, even local mag are doing the same, ask photographers to shoot their product saying they will give cerdits

isn't this blatant exploitation?

Sadly I was taken one of the victims. My friend asked me to shoot her friend, whose a yoga on water teacher in Singapore. Was free so said ok.
The Yoga on water (you can google, if you want to know who) contacted me, proceeded to show me her previous photo shot by hobbyist angmo's husband. The backgrounds were photoshopped to blur it, using Nikon camera and kit lens obviously.
Came the day I went all the way to East Coast Park, waited, she was late. Came, was very aloof and started to demand I better do a good job, as she's using it for magazines. I brought a 400mm L lens. After the event, I showed her the photos which was clear and sharp. She complained it wasn't 'colorful' as the angmos. Told her only consumer cameras produce saturated colors. She began to ridicule me, saying are you sure? etc. Then commented there isn't a blur area at the front of the photos (not the back bokeh). I told her it's photoshopped, she replied that she asked the angmo and he said there wasn't any photoshop done. Are you sure? Such low quality, blatant 'blur' at the front of the pics, and not photoshopped? Unique lens he's got, able to shoot long distance and blur front and back as well... oh well, then demanded all my photos with or without edit, plus a tongue lashing from her telling me I wasn't up to it. Told her you know nuts about photography and I wasn't even charging you.
So much for the horrible experience. No more freebies from me.

googled and a couple of names appeared.

hope you didn't handover the photos.

for me personally, since she's so nasty, I'd have watermarked the photos, "Taken on Gratis".

Dennis, let me give a tip. If you are doing it for free and the subject is so terrible. Do this, tell them that if the photos are so bad, so terrible then you will erase the files. No need for them to be so tortured by these bad photos. Whats more they have nothing that they can do, remember it was a free shoot. There is no need to argue so much about the quality of what you done. No good means you can not use, right no need for photos from me.

I googled and a few of yoga on water instructors shows up as well, like jfoo said. To be fair to the other innocent instructors, you should let us know exactly who, so that the other instructors won't receive the bad feelings we photographers generated when reading this.

Also, why do we need to protect the names of these nasty well bodied people begging for freebies for their personal gain, yet condescending to the hands that feed?

I think we have to blame this on 90s commercials' "now everyone is a photographer"-type of commercial. Photography just got cheapened when introduced to masses, where even those who dont understand how to get their camera out of auto to work it the way they envision can be a self proclaimed photographer.

Many are just throwing away respect for their profession by cheapening their service. When they continue to not receive any income, they start to bitch about it.

Tho im just a hobbist myself, the most logical for me when hiring/be hired, is to pay/be paid a comparitively small base fee for time and effort, and price-per-print for prints, and/or with written documents for liscencing(eg repeated image sharing/use) if digital copy is requested. It is the photographer's own responsibility to make his/her business clear before taking up the job. You cant control the behaviour of your client directly, but you can control the TYPE of client you attract.
