Advice for Dry cabinet.

Hi all.

I just bought a new Digi-Cabi 30L and wonder is it alright to place it in a room with air-con on sometimes? I have set the knob at 12-1 o'clock and roughly how long will it take to settle down to 40-50 RH?

Assuming your's is an analog setting, so it should take anywhere between 2 hours to 6 hours to settle down to a RH you have set. If within 6 hours you don't achieve the desired RH, you got to turn the knob again. Note that for analog version, no two cabinet may have identical knob position. They may be out by 5-10%.

It is okie to leave it in an aircon room even if you turn on the aircon 24/7. Just don't leave it near windows where raindrops can splash on your unit.

Yep,ok to place in a air-con room.Need about overnight to settle down

Bingo!! it is analog setting and currently 58% RH and 30 degree. If my air-con is on only at night and not in the morning will there be any problem?

58% is abit on the high side..
Somewhere in between 45-50% is most ideal.. never too high, never too low..

And whether ur aircon on or not doesn't matter...

58% RH is a bit high. If it still remain the same, you got to dial in further to lower the RH value.

Aircon only ON at night is not an issue and will not pose any problem.

Thanks for answering my questions, really saves me the trouble of shifting it out from my room. Currently its 53% RH after 2 hours guess its working well!

Why would you think that air con is bad for your dry cab?

Anyway, dry-cab in air con room.... no problem.

Just listen to Uncle Hotwork77. Sunshine or no sunshine is not critical. As long as no danger of rain water splashing on the cabinet, it should be fine. Water reaching the back of the cabinet will result in either a short circuit and/or the evaporating unit malfunctioning. Then your cabinet needs to go to the hospital.

RH 58% as well don't buy dry cabinet, 'coz the fungus will still grow

For photography equipments, 40-45% is recommended, as bro Numnumball had mentioned

Too low, the leather will crack & some lubricant in moving parts will dry up

A lot of people, see the digital display in the cabinet, they will immediately thought that this is digital controller series. Actual it is not!!!!


So long there is a knob and you need to manually adjust the RH in the cabinet, it is analog controller series.

There are some brand in the market which is digital series e.g. AIPO.

the fine tuning take less than 2 days and you almost dont ever have to both with it again. i just check the readings every time i put in or take out my camera, which is about 2-3 times a week.

its really up to every individual's own preference. i rather save on the diff which is about $70 (which is alot to me) and spend on more gears. but thats just me

I haven't had the need to touch the knob on my analog dry cabinet for over 6 months.

No. A small cabinet typically draws 5W. A medium sized cabinet typically draws 8W.

base on the current electricity rate of $0.235 pre kWh (kilo Watt per hour)
a small dry cabinet run 24/7 and consumes 5w per hour, one month 30 days it consumed 3600W, so it costs you $0.80 additional on top of your monthly utility bill, is this too expensive to you?

For more accurate RH% reading, you can get a digital clock with a hygrometer. This is probably the most accurate.
