MP suggests reward for reporting litterbugs

I think a better idea is to apply it to reckless driving on the road with dashcam nowadays most cars have one.

Let drivers ownself check ownself and make the roads safer.

Littering... go fun yourself auntie.

Why not do both... both litterbugs catcher and drivers have a little reward...

The only thing I fear is SG becoming something of a police states where everyone 'Spy' on everyone...

Spies are good as they keep everyone on their toes.

Russia has been such a formidable country because beside KBG they have spies everywhere.

So does China as in Cultural Revolution everyone practically spied and reported on everyone.

Littering, smoking, parking, crime, and the list goes on... All reporting shall be rewarded. Civic duties to be monetized?

This kind of policy only promotes selfishness and negativity against each other. Its the best way to turn citizens against each other using petty issues, once it get escalated to involve race, religion, or special rights groups, it gets worst. Some kind of damage once done, its hard to repair. This is a bullshit MP.

Have you observed how people hate enforcers like the Police, traffic wardens, especially traffic wardens and NEA enforcers? Because they are seen as predators on small offences that are often happened without malicious or criminal intent behind. But the resentments are controlled to these groups of enforcers because they are paid to do the dirty job. When you let citizens take over, hah, the wrong type of control and policy, can have rather bad results.

This will be the greatest change the authority has brought to this great nation if they have the vision and courage to introduce citizen reporting and rewards to Singapore. It will herald in a new era of better security and civic consciousness among the citizenry.

It will give the idle retirees some income and something to do to go around reporting misdeeds and anti-social behaviour. Our nation will be stronger and more cohesive and people will be proud of being a 新加坡公民.

If you don't have anything to hide you don't have to be afraid of 人民间谍. :)

Personally I cannot stand litterbugs...but I absolutely abhor tattle tells...

Both my kids tattle tell one time...then get switch...tattle tell no more! hahaha :bsmilie:

Like Sion says though...nothing to hide nothing to be afraid of.

Good part time job for retirees.

Walk around the beaches and near bus stops... not a bad way to get some income.

Fear nobody if you do no wrong.

You should salute them as they are doing a honest job by keeping Singapore in order.

Jiak Lak.

The world's my dustbin.

How will the one reporting know if the alleged has then been incriminated? Will not work ........ better left in the hands of the law enforcers .....give them something to do ..... :)

I don't like the ideal where everybody is so worried that they have no privacy and those taking video or photo of others claim they are just being a good citizen.

When there are reports of excessive littering, NEA put up notice and invite volunteers to 'catch' the culprits. Only the designated areas are allowed. Of course if the culprits decide to stop, it is good for everybody. However, if he is caught, he pays double and the person with the proof gets double.

You are selfish if you litter. Imagine if everybody litter what will become Singapore?

If you do not litter you are helping others be race, religion... to promote public spirit. Your choice, litter and get fine or do not litter and help keep the nation clean.

Fear nothing if you do no wrong!

So we should wait until the place is full of litter then we take action?

Don't you think prevention is better than cure?

If we can help, why not?

It is in the interest of the nation. Don't leave everything to the enforcer. e.g. if you see your love one or a stranger in trouble, do you keep quiet or/and leave it to the enforcer?

I know many people think we shouldn't complain this and that, but do not mixed this up as complain, complain is just blow up an issue but never provide any solution, reporting is stating an issue but direct it to the party who is able to take care the issue.

as a law abiding citizen, we should report whatever unlawful activities, or any issues need to be addressed, with or without any incentive, this is our duty, our responsibility too.
