Singapore Grand Prix 2015 questions ...

P.S I couldn't find posts with answers to my specific questions. Sorry if I missed.

To all experienced photogs (which most of you are)

I am looking for tips and suggestions for the upcoming Grand Prix. This would be my first time photographing any racing event.

Location - What is the best location to photograph in your opinion?
Tickets are selling fast. Do I stand a better chance to take photos if I get a grandstand ticket, or a walkabout ticket?
If I do buy a ticket, which position/spot is likely to get me a better view to be able to take clear view photos?

Equipment - body 5DMKII, lens 75-200 2.8, tripod, 580flash. Would this cut it, do I need wider lenses?? I generally shoot on full manual.
Any tips you can give specific to this event would be great.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

For the past few years,I always bought walkabout tickets and recce around.
My advise is to recce around and look at the map for different events to station your spots,don't just keep staying at the same spot. And please do not use flash if you are shooting the race. U did not specify clearly what are your main targets,so how do we know if your set up is suitable or not?

I am not sure this year situation. this base on my experience. Walkaround ticket is good but come early to get best spot Premium walkaround is the best, not crowded and many good spot flash not required. Tele is a must at least 70-200. Better if have 300 or 400 or you can use extension 2x. Come early, walk around to get good spot and know how to handle the fence. The Best actions is the race day

You have 3 days. First day observe and observe until the final day, you know where's your best spot

Bay Grandstand is the best value IMO.

At $298 for one grandstand seat + walkabout for zone 3 & 4.

it depends on your purpose of visit.
In one of the year,I got Bay Grandstand but I spent most of my time walking about to shoot.
I was lucky to take a few shots from the stand(top view) before the security chase us away, and I heard they are stricter last year.

You should be fine if you stick with the rules. Last year, I enjoy photographing the cars at the stand and walk about areas, and later the concert.

The stand still can shoot now but the fence will be captured quite obvious too.

If iam not wrong the max is 200mm, but I brought in longer than that before.
