Many of us are just like a friend of mine who is a slave of money.

He works in the airport, on 3 shifts basis. As such, his working hours are irregular; some time day, same time night. He works hard for the $2500 nett take home pay inclusive of OT on a monthly basis. He works because he needs the money to send his son to school and pay his bills, etc. Do you like the job? Absolutely not, said him. I wanted to look for other job but no luck in his job search, so he has to continue in this routine.

do you ask him what kind of job he like to do and why?

I ink most people don't have the opportunity to chose a career that is of his interest and pays the bills. That is why there are so many of us here taking up photography as a hobby.

If you friend don't like his job because it is not paying enough, he needs to find out why they aren't paying him more and works toward it. I don't think he is not looking for interest. However, there are many who prefer to just doing what they are comfortable with regardless of the income. We do need both to balance the society.

my take is not everyone able get to do what they like for their jobs.
even if you get to do what you like as a living, there will be certain parts of your job you that hate to do,

so, even if you don't like your current job, there also will be some parts of your job you like to do too.

than why don't you find out what parts of you jobs you like most and enjoy it?
that will change your mindset and make your job less so dislikeable.

on your thread title, and your questions in the post,

you define the work as a task that ones does it daily to make a living for self and family.

if ones does not seek the meaning of work, his work won't be enjoyable, and any work to him is also not enjoyable.

so everything boil down to ones' mindset.

True it is all about being flexible and adaptation. A life cycle everyone has to walk through. Do take a break it you really cannot continue, there is always other paths to consider.

I think the reason why our boss is paying us monthly, is because its compensation for the misery we suffer at work... :bsmilie:

Some people are lucky enough to find both a job they love... and one that could pay their bills... Most of us (including ME)... just work and 'Suffer' because we need to pay our bills and may not be able to find something else.

There is nothing wrong to be a slave of money.

Money is what they reward for your sweat.

Try telling the manager in the interview that you want to work for him for free and see whether you'll get the job or not.

:)

Ur friend seriously need to look at him self, his attitude, passion and motivation.....U can give him a CEO post but can he handle that? A true successful person can do a better job than any slacker even in table cleaning job....it's people who make the different...not the job

If not...blame the parent https://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/a-college-student-blows-inheritance-bert-show-205833329.html

Correct me if I am wrong even for those who love photography and do this professionally .. You would still "hate" it for something?

Personally I feel that once u get paid for doing a hobby .. There is associated stress that comes with it.

agree with this, when the attitude is not right, any job he does won't be right.

so he can either

做一天和尚撞一天钟 (go on tolling the bell as long as one is a monk -- to take a passive attitude towards one's work;)

or think of how to 行行出状元 (Every profession produces its own topmost master.)

He should be thankful that he has a job. Many are waiting to take over his job for same pay and work time. This is the hard truth of life.

We are in an unfair world. We can't have everything we have, ie good job we love to do with good pay and good working time and good family life.

Yes, some managed to have this, but again, this world is unfair. Some get it, some don't.

Back to yr friend, there are many factors to his situation. Has he ever gone for career guidance or coaching? Find out what's his motivation or things he likes to do? Has he gone for skills upgrade? Take relevant courses before?

These days, bosses shouldn't be happy that employees are staying put in the jobs.

Not because of loyalty or some BS abt loving the stupid company. It's simply they couldn't find anything better outside. If not, they already throw the resignation letter at the boss' face.

Always remember "Everyone has a price tag."

Sounds like he's just being a responsible dad/husband and providing for his family. That's not being a slave to money, that's making a living. To me, being a slave to money is when one has enough, but is never content. Instead choosing to pursue/accumulate more for the sake of it, at the expense of neglecting the more important things.

To use the same scenario, it would be more like if this friend were in a situation where he could afford to work less, but chooses to work more so that he can indulge himself in excessive luxuries, when he could actually spend that time with his son/family.

Exact sentiments
If you're in a position of financial freedom and yet choose to sacrifice other more important things in seek of more money that's what i call being a slave to money.

You are right on this. There are many FTs waiting to be employed. Once you quit, there will be a long queue for your position by FTs. More than 50% of the staff in the airport are FTs.

Getting what we want in life is a blessing.
Not getting what we want is the norm.

Not that stress n near my house. Shift work but even I going to setup a family, current gf got to know that time with her now n future will be abnormal. If I change same line, I still might not use to it as other company might have a total different work scope. My salary n bonus still ok, so, I think I will retire from this job. :D
