Sony FE 24-70mm F4 ZA

Need comments on the Sony FE 24-70mm F4 ZA. I'm planning to buy the A7MII and still considering whether to buy the body + SEL2870 kit or body only & FE 24-70mm F4 ZA lens. Is it really worth the investment?

How is the general performance of the kit lens SEL2870? Is quality, focusing speed etc of acceptable standard?

the optical quality of 2870 is OK. Above average for a kit lens. The focusing speed is SLOW...painfully slow....2470 has slightly better optical performance. The build quality, OSS and focusing performance is much better.

you might wanna consider the FE24-240.
It's much bigger yes but it covers so much more and optically from what i see, it's actually better than both.
I gave the FE2470 quite a huge benefit of the doubt and maybe it's because iw as using it on the a7r..but after 9mths of trying to accept it, i just had to sell it because it didn't live up to my expectations of a pro zoom lens.
The 24240 is getting my interest :) I know it's not gonig to match any primes and probably will match or even better the 2470 IQ with much more reach.

I'm also looking at the 3 lens as a walkabout lens.

FE 28-70mm - SRP $669, Weight 295g
FE 24-70mm - SRP $1559, Weight 426g
FE 24-240mm - SRP $1369, Weight 780g

I'm also leaning towards the 24-240mm for the reach but the weight is something to be look into. IQ wise, expectation vary from person to person based on usage, paid or for holiday use.

For travel i think 24-240 would be ideal less gears to bring with you as this cover whole lot of focal range. IQ wise for get aways normally unless you're paid photographer for your works then should get prime lenses but just for memories and sharing photos i think this lens should be good enough.

if you're looking at travel photos and shooting mainly with JPG, i'll skip the 2470 and just go 24240.
The IQ is actually better than the 2470 most times. It's only the distortion that i much worse but in Jpg, it's all corrected. In raw, you need to apply the compensation. The only problem is that it goes to f6.3 very quickly..at 70mm i believe its already f5.6 so it's one stop slower than the 2470.
I ultimately sold my 2470 because the IQ wasn't acceptable...and i also decided against the 24240 after using it because it was way too big and heavy...
For me, since i use the a7r, i might as well just stick to it's prime lenses to really make use of the wonderful sensor..for everything else, i use the rx100..i find the IQ from that camera even better than the 2470.
