Well he is reaping what he had sown. Now he knows how it feels to be at
the receiving end period.

Its equally deplorable for the authorities to do nothing about it

To all those who say we should let the law take its course, esp consumer laws, they have done nothing to protect the unsuspecting consumers. These laws have no bite at all.

I find it a little amusing that the CASE chairman is still continuing with his talk on letting the law take its course. In the meantime these hooligans would've scammed another few hundred tourists and foreigners who dont know better.

Every dollar STB spends on promoting Singapore, CASE wastes it by being toothless and engaging in a massive wayang exercise.

At least CASE is helping by increasing employment number and spending tax dollars :bsmilie:

Thoughts anyone?

I think it is OK to get creative to send a message to someone who deserves certain just desserts, but it is not OK to get criminal.

i guess throwing 1000 dollar coins on the floor and asking consumers to pick up in front of them is uncriminal in today's law. Shouldn't he be charged for crimes against the Currency Act by throwing money? What was the police woman who watched the whole incident doing? Crowd control? I guess we still do not have a Humiliation ACT where people can fall back on.

Laws that uphold justice against such acts (when businesses cheat unsuspecting customers) need to be carefully thought out and debated.

Most are calling for a law to demand closure of business. But this law will have far reaching effects and can be used against just about any firm.

Such laws might reduce Singapore to the pitiful state that the US is in, where individuals can sue companies and businesses in frivolous lawsuits.

It's not a matter of "cannot implement" but legislation needs to be debated and carefully scrutinized to prevent abuse

The grammar and punctuation are both poorly used in this article. You can tell by a glance it's meant to ridicule the minister.

By the way, anyone would have beem shocked by their behavior, not just a minister. Unless you face someone dumping a bag of coins at your feet every day and filming you crying

but then, he's not just "anyone" isn't he?

A one in a million cherry-picked scholar turned hardened general turned..... nevermind. Let's hope he is shocked into taking some action for the people. So far, we've only seen people's action though(no pun intended).

that he's not just "anyone" and that he's a "scholar-general-minister"... what's your point exactly? he's still human just like the rest of us. unless you mean to say that as an elite of Singapore, he's oblivious to what happens at Sim Lim?

please, even if i knew about their bad behavior i wouldn't have expected that they would do such things. and i'm just a small fry in society.

and as for the "pay back" given to the owner of the shop, it was the justice of the people... but to harass him and his wife, reveal his address, threaten his whole family, and so on and so forth... i would say that the people behind that fictitious facebook page went a step too far. this time, a lack of provision of the law allowed this to happen. but to bully others, you're just telling everyone else what a bigger bully you are. what more with the attitude of "i don't care. they won't dare to arrest me" by the page admins. i find it very childish and immature. they've got guts though, you've gotta give it to them. but still, what they did is just the stepping stones to social anarchy.

You need to get out more often then.

That shop has remained closed for almost a week. The signal was loud and clear. D espite 25 known complaints, who was able to do put him out of business prior? No one.

So what you're saying is such behavior that even if you inadvertently and accidentally arouse someone's anger, they should be allowed to harass you? Even if it might have been a mistake?

What this is laying the grounds for is for people to take revenge in such manner and you're perfectly ok with that?

And please, I'm out very often but i don't see people getting cheated every where i go. Unless of course, you get cheated every day.
