M1 users, are you experiencing poor 3G network signal?

Forget about 4G, I am happy if I have 3G. I subscribed to M1 when they first started and has continued since. Partly because they bundle a 2nd line for only $10 which is very useful for light user.

When a group of us entered a lift, M1 users got cut off first. Once upon a time, it was StarHub. Today, many StarHub users can still talk in the lift car! If I am on the net and got out of the lift, I may have to switch off my phone and then switch on back to get the data line working. :angry:

My conversation with the respective service providers are, they will first consider their clients profile where the signal is weak first before they are prepare to upgrade their base station. Client profile means the number of their customers in that area AND their types of plans and monthly bills. :nono:

While I must say that with M1 coming into the playing field, SingTel got a wake-up call. Now, all 3 have gone into deep sleep. Writing, calling, etc will not move them since as individual, we are just a small little client not worth their trouble. Hopefully, if they hear from more, they will take notice. :sweat:

Hmm I'm using M1 and in the lift still can use leh. Only sometimes in mrt underground then suddenly cut off.

Erm...depending which building you are in...kena cut off in the lift might not be Telco issue....the building need to install repeater....my company has such issue previously but the problem resolved after we fixed the repeater in every floor's lift lobby. ..all the 3 telco get 4G full bar now

Google the meaning of 'Faraday Cage', try to understand it, it's just basic Physics. But rest assured, you are not the first one stumbling across it. I have seen lifts with absolutely no signal of any provider being available after the doors closed. And above the button panel the big sign "In case of breakdown please call .." (No, there wasn't any call button...)
Secondly, it's not cost free for the telco providers to install signal repeaters in lifts or lift lobbies. Depending on the charges that building owners will ask for your favorite provider might just not want to pay this price.
If your network doesn't come up again, just disable data for a moment. After re-enabling it will reconnect. No need to reboot the phone.

Rest assure I am fully aware of repeaters/antennas. Most building owners don't charge telcos for such installation. In fact the new by-law requires building owner to provide space free for base stations. I have not heard of any that charge for space use to install antennas Telco company will only consider adding repeated or antenna based on what I have mentioned.

Well, you opted for M1 for the price reason, right? You get what you pay for. On the other hand: if you are in a conversation then just finish the call in the lift lobby before you enter the lift. Much better than to force other people in the lift listening to things they don't want to hear. - I really like the Japanese style respect and consideration for not making phone calls in lifts and trains ...

Thank you for the reminder. I generally don't talk over the phone when I am in a lift or crowded areas such as train. That is why wattsapp become useful but got cut off.

Whether the plan is cheap or expensive, it would not affect the signal strength. Incidentally I have 2 lines with M1, a $10 plus one plan and the other cost $100 with the data plan. So it is not about being cheap.

Competition maybe the key to improve our service standard here.

Amperes Law ...net electric flux through an enclosed conductor is zero . lifts approximate such a structure .

for singtel users who coincidentally have their base stations so nearby in specific cases, there are other lifts where they can't do shirt with their phones.

Just wish to clarify. Technology for all 3 telcos are the same. Just who is willing to put in money on infrastructure at various location. If a particular location has higher valued customers, they will be willing to invest. Your use age generate income. But what about IDA requirement on in-building min signal strength? Who is enforcing this?

If everyone use a particular telco because they command a bigger network, one day you kill the rest, this big guy will play hard to get too.

What if people use a particular brand just because of the better coverage? How many gaps in coverage are you willing to accept for a lower package price? You are already complaining about lifts...
Or do you suggest we should all run over to M1, generate profit and hope that they would return the favour and set up more antennas?

I have subscribed to M1 for so many years and just renewed recently. I would have switch if i strongly feel I have been short changed. All service providers need competition to improve. In today market, the consumer is king. A good example is our buses. After years of feedback from users, finally we are hearing some changes although LTA has insisted it was world class.

What you think is best may not be what your clients want. If you don't see any wrong, there is nothing to improve since it is the best.
