Freezing Upp Thomson/Mandai!
If you're shooting for a friend's event no charge. The client paid for 40 of your friends talents/models plus 4 of their own videographers. No Photographer. You took candids and coverage of the event using top notch equipments (not amateurishly taken). The clients wants your photo, however, you must...
1. Remove all traces of your watermark
2. Not getting paid for your photos at all

Would you have give the client your photos out of goodwill?

No....please remember there's no free lunch in this world.

Dude what good will is there to be had.? It is your friend's client. You gave them some pics with watermark of unknown resolution. They now want probably high res flies with rights to do what they will with them. The client was not a poor starving & new to this market person - paid for 40 talent/models had money also to pay for 4 videographers never though of get photographic coverage. If you do this for free be always prepared to be their free vendor, I am sure they will call you every blessed time they have some thing on after you are mian fay one what (free, cheap and good plus also sucker). Even if there is a next time from free to paid for if it occurs will never be at the price you ask for - they will also tell you hey help lor not enough budget I give you $xx instead of $xxx next time I make it up to you 8')

I would advise to say no and also to be clear how and what the person can use the water marked files that you gave.

Whether your friend is the client or not, the answer is no, no and nooooo. Run away from the client!!

he is not even a client dude...

from what you wrote, he is not have no money to pay, but what he think is photographers don't deserve it at all.
this chap look at photographer so cheaply, why would a photographer still turn his face to let him slap some more?

next time don't show up such events lar, 还嫌不够賤?

叫他“免归私第”

i'm taken aback and obviously would feel insulted.

If give free, can - but I must retain my watermarks at very obvious spots on the images (on the model's faces :bsmilie: )

Lastly, how close is this friend? If really so close can share one pair of pants , i'll give but obviously its the 1st and last time I'll ever bring a camera to his events.

If you are still so goondoos to even have to think about giving away those pics for free, then obviously you are 犯贱

Even want you to take out the watermark.. So this time they dun even want to use "exposure" to pay u...

huatman, i'm definitely would've liked your post if the like button was still around.

The clients wants your photo...

Of course not! Unless the client is the Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un and I am one of his loyal subjects, why am I supposed to give him/her my work because he/she wants it?

I also refer you to the "Should I Work For Free" flowchart, which should help you in future: http://shouldiworkforfree.com/

Yes, if the 'client' is your mum :bsmilie:

Bro if it was young Kim asking ….. this question would not have come up- given freely and quickly. Ditto for mum.
Our young friend seems to want "public" endorsement to I dunno say no or yes. Logic says there is nothing to be had here, if photography was not desired or "client" thought he could squeeze it out of the videographer for free he got disappoint had to pay for it, along come naive wanna be charging photographer who claims to have use high end (wats is that now a days ? top of line or next to ?) and done not ameutuerishly (hmmm where does he get is yard stick from) who thinks to open door with a set of images with watermark…… and get puzzled by I want this (it was obviously high res files) without watermark ( client can not even want to pay to have water mark removed) free. This is the reason why the industry is going to the **** hole in rapid acceleration.

no no and no, without any kind of remuneration it is a ridiculous thing to do

Bro, no offenses intended, but if you really want to bend over and open your legs wide wide for free, be labelled with whatever names from your peers and from that 'client' (behind your back they probably rolling on the floor and snickering at you whenever your name is brought up), it is totally up to you. But also think about other photographers, the dignity of the industry, and think about your parents and family and the rest of the people looking up to you, is this the way you want to represent yourself to the world?

Dennis, 12 years in clubsnap you learned nothing?

Do not listen to the other posters here, listen to me, you should just give them all the photos free, because that is what they deserved; everything from you, and this is what you deserved; nothing. Nothing for you.

Seriously? This type of question? If you think the other posters have harsh response, how does the alternate response here sounds like?

Please do the right thing remove all downloadable photos from that event and never ever let them have the photos at all forever.

You ought to be paid for your work. You also deserve recognition if your works are liked by many. People wants to know your name, if there is none, you gain nothing, absolutely zero. You may also subject yourself and others to be exploited by organizations who wants good images but do not need to fork out a cent. Citing excuses such as giving credit to you. Such event organizers do have their budgets but still able to pay. They do reap in profits in long run, up to a year or two.

These aside, your equipments, education, skills and post processing effort also worth something. Unless for charity, never provide free services or send your images without being paid or be given credits. Better still get both (paid and credit). Recover funds invested and build another to move up to another level in photography.

With all being said abovei, I wish you luck and make a wise decision in all fairness

Well, I feel you still deserve to be credited either way; be paid for a nominal sum or watermark.

When you said you're "Shooting for a friend's event no charge" was the understanding that you're shooting for yourself/for fun or had you agreed to shoot the event for your friend (as in being the event photographer with deliverable) for free?

If it is the former than you should charge, if it is the later than you should keep your promise and think twice next time.
