Well, result of some of the not-so-wise decisions made by the management of the Company. Hope they learn from it.

But there are others. For one, I never understood the pricing rationale of the 1 series... Expensive body cheap lenses. If only they raised the prices of the lenses slightly and lower the prices on the bodies, people will not complain as much.
Ahem... the D600 is still listed in Nikon, US, S'pore websites & is still being sold here & elsewhere.

The dSLR market is facing a lot of pressure, and I suppose dSLR manufacturers are still a little lost.
While it is quite clear now, or indeed, even a couple of years ago, of what the trend is, development and production roadmaps are determined several years in advance.
I suppose this is more of a measure of how nimble management is in adjusting development efforts to new trends. Some fare better than others. You still cannot deny that Nikon cameras are still good at what they do, and as a corporation, still quite profitable.
Maybe there is little pressure, other than all this online "feedback", to do more.

The D610-D600 fiasco is not about "development and production roadmaps determined several years in advance".
Aiya... That is just them trying to make good of the D600 without admitting anything. Top management decision lah.

It is more of a corporate culture thing...
Just look at Sigma: snapped out of it with the new CEO, and he really moved the company forward.

IMHO there were a few decisions that did not go down well in the market:
- refusal to admit fault with D800 (left focus) and D600 (oil spots)
- quick minor change and D610 was born, making D600 virtually worthless in one swift move
- decision not to continue sub-pro lines (D700 + MB-D10 that rivals D3, D300/s + MB-D10 that also rivals D3 in some ways, e.g. fps, but in DX format) for fear/experience of sub-pro line cannibalizing the pro line. The fact that D700 and D300/s sold well reinforces the thought that more D3 would have been sold, which was non-sense (a bit like the software companies saying billions of lost sales due to piracy in China and India - sales that would not have existed anyway)
- over priced Nikon 1 series, Coolpix A
- oh yes the lack of DX lenses, especially in wide primes
I do not agree with the assertions that Df was done wrong, and overpriced, though, but that was another decision that the web writers looooveeeed to bash.
