I think this thread might be specific to other X-series cameras besides the X-T1, so I figured I'll start a seperate thread.

There's a macro mode option on the X-T1, and lens documentation says that its to enable to closer focusing on these lens

The 18-55 f/2.8-4 has the following specs..
Normal Approx. 0.6m - ∞ (whole zoom position)
Macro Wide : 30cm - 10m
Telephoto : 40cm - 10m

I've tested this lens and camera and achieved fast focus lock on an object 30cm away (at wide), without enabling macro mode. Enabling macro mode doesn't make much difference for close up (Didn't test infinity or focusing speeds)

I've a XF1, and it seems to exhibit the same behaviour (no need to enable macro mode to achieve 'macro' focus. The x100s does require you to enable macro mode to achieve a close up lock.

Anyone else has the same experience with other lens/bodies ?

Yah why ah

Focus distance is lens dependant.

The macro mode on Fuji cameras is very misleading. It doesn't enable the lens to focus closer than the specs.

When u turn on the macro mode, it actually tells the camera that the user is trying to focus on subjects close to the camera. So the camera will try to focus on the subjects closer to the camera first.

My lx7 do a better job in this aspect.

I try similar on last night. I feel the same that it really no "macro" effect after selecting it. Maybe it really depend on the lens. did you update your 18-55mm to latest firmware? which I have not.

YUP! make sense. i also quick check the manual tell the same. Thx!
