Cant decide on a compact. EOS-M or Fujifilm X20 or Lumix LX7

As above, I need some adv from you bros out there.
I'm used to the picture quality churned out my old and trusty 40D, so most compacts dun cut it.
Furthermore 40D cannot record vids.

I'm looking towards EOS-M, X20 and LX7.

Mainly cos I take a lot of indoor kids shots. I like the EOS-M cos of its sensor, but its lens is petty decent. LX7 has the power of f1.4 but I've yet to see the quality of images taken. My 3rd choice is X20. Both X20 and LX7 has smaller sensor as the M rite.

Or do u guys recommend me another model for my consideration? Really need some adv.

since you are used to apsc sensor images, why dont you stick with EOS M ? To satisfy your doubt, you can bring your memory card to the stores to test the Lx7 and X20. Try fuji concept store at Funan for the x20 and ask around the stores there to see if they can let you try with your card on to see firsthand of the images from those camera ?

How about the 100D? It had the handling of a DSLR, almost as small as the EOS-M, can make use of your old lenses (if you still have them). Otherwise, you could also looked to Olympus or Panasonic's mirrorless interchangeable lens system... if you want small ones, looked to GF series and EPM series of the mirrorless system.

How about the 100D? It had the handling of a DSLR, almost as small as the EOS-M, can make use of your old lenses (if you still have them). X100 is way out of my budget, tho i'd love to have that. I've never tried or seen a Ricoh around before. I'll test them out first. Thanks for your recommendations.

Nokia 1020 or Nokia 1520. Read the reviews... they are simply fabulous. Nokia 1020 even have sensor the same size as prosumer compact camera... unless it is the APS-C sensor quality that you are looking for... then there is no other choice but to go to the Coolpix A or Ricoh.

Oh... and do look at the marvelous Sony RX100 II... It had a pretty large 1 inch sensor and are pretty small in overall size.

So my recommendation would be:

1) Nokia 1020 - 41MP camera with incredible dynamic range, excellent IQ and pretty amazing detail and resolution, the only things I have with the Nokia 1020 was its miserably small battery (although it do have a grip, but that make the whole thing a bit fat), very slow write time and no expansion slot.

2) Nokia 1520 - 20MP camera, pretty good dynamic range, good IQ, big battery, expansion slot... but it take some imagination to mount this onto a tripod.

3) Ricoh and Nikon's APS-C sensor compact camera offering.

4) Sony RX100 II - one of my favourite and I would have jumped at it if it cost abit lesser.

Honestly sir, I've never touched a Nokia ever since Android was introduced to this world. However I guess I need to search the 1020/1520 to test out but its a tough task as most hp shops just show the dummy ones? Thank you very much for your recommendations by the way.

I've left out RX100II earlier as I feel its a challenge to hold it in my large hands. No doubt its a performer but it doesn't work out for me. I just dun feel good with it..

Try Samsung NX300, a fabulous mirrorless interchangeable lens camera with APS-C sensor , with OLED 3.3 inch screen and can take 3D vidoeo. Got myself one last week and loving it.

Looks like everyone here is in favour of interchangeable lenses. EOS-M, NX300.
When will EOS-M II release anyway? I still have my EFS17-55mm but it'll look weird on a small compact tho. Hahaha

Well yes compared to those cameras it is slow. But it's not really much slower than say the X100 or the X-pro when they were initially launched. From my limited experience handling the Epl-2 (which is already a gen 2 oly) I don't think it fares worse either. The NEX-7 is definitely faster but that's not blazing either.

One thing I will say though, the EOS-M seriously can't ai-servo to save its life.

Anyway it's a first gen camera, here is hoping Canon improves it as each year goes along. The EOSM makes sense for me as a backup to my DSLR. Easy for my kid to use too though he prefers the X100.

Add: TS - the EOSM isnt really pocketable even with the 22mm pancake. Unless you don't mind odd bulges in your pants.

Thanks for the video example. As long as it can focus well in indoor environment, i'm kinda game for it. But definitely its not for capturing running kids in a room.

As I mentioned earlier, I prefer my darnest not to get something which has interchangeable lenses as I have my dslr oready. And I prefer something which has APS-C sensor or equivalent for my image quality.

Generally when selling small compact cameras, salesmen NEVER want to talk about sensor sizes.
In terms of prettiness, the Fuji X100S beats the others. But Fuji X100S has no image stabilisation and cannot change lenses. It has a fixed 23mm F2 (35mm focal length equivalent) lens.

Prices of Olympus EM-5 has fallen a lot since the E-M1 was introduced. You may want to look at it carefully.
EM-5 has good IS, can change lenses and is weather proofed.
EM-5 at current prices is a viable alternative. Autofocus is VERY fast.

LX7 sensor 1/1.7" 43.3 sqmm
Fuji X20 sensor 2/3" 58.1 sqmm
EOS M sensor 22.3 x 14.9 APSC 332.27 sqmm
Fuji X100S sensor 23.6 mm × 15.8 mm (APS-C) 372.88 sqmm

Fuji X100S sensor is 8.61 times bigger than LX7 sensor.
Fuji X100S sensor is 6.42 times bigger than Fuji X20 sensor.
