Stay out of it.

It is an affront to descendants/relatives of victims of Nanjing massacre and unit 731 biological/germicidal experiments.

The solution is to intern the ashes of the 14 class A war criminals in a separate far away place.

Locally, govt got no choice but to object because of Sook Ching massacre. I think they did the right thing to object. Otherwise SG would seem very two-faced to the world.

lots of people don't see it that way.

but it's not for us to comment. this is more than just what normal citizens see... this is politics

but from what i know is...

Government makes a stand that they shouldn't do it, people complain that our government (and other governments who protest) are too buried in the past.

but when they don't, people cry mother cry father that the government has forgotten what happened.

let it be.

for me, not that i don't care, but it's in the past. but for the politicians, it's still a battle

The world war II war criminals, top military officials, who approved the genocide of innocent civilians during the war, are in the Shrine :(

If you set up a shrine for a mass murderer and worship him.
What would everyone think of you ?

Agree with kei that it is more of an exploitation by politicians from both sides to advance their agendas.

Stay out of it.
This should be advice to local gov too. They should simply stay neutral and keep their mouth shut, instead of making a regret statement.

They killed thousands of people in the past yet you don't care. Small riot only, make big fuss here and there :dunno:

War is like that.
The American also killed/raped a lot of innocent civilian in Vietnam war. And caused generations of innocent civilians in suffering from the after-effects of their atomic bombs.

Well if your entire family (adults & children) were brutally tortured & killed, or you witnessed the rape, torture & massacre of the chinese in Singapore & China, And I erect a shrine to those who committed these acts on your family & countrymen to worship for all time, you may have a different opinion... Man may forgive, but they do not easily forget, especially when there is no real repentance or restitution.

Honestly... Japan should have just followed Post war Germany example of admitting to the war crime of the Nazi regime.... and then get on with life... instead, 60+ years of endless headache... and it will get worst with a ever more powerful and rich China... lets not forget a much wealthier Korea too....

Or they could just remove those convicted of war crimes from the shrine, or erect a separate memorial to remember & pay respect to those who fought & died honorably for their country, excluding the war criminals ...
