Actual Humidity inside Dry Cabinets?

Hi,

I recently purchased a AIPO Dry Cabinet AP-48EX (48L) online from Tago Tech website.

As stated in the manual, i set the digital meter to 45%RH.

To ascertain the %RH is at 45% inside the cabinet, i placed a digital temperature/hygrometer inside to compare the reading.

The temperature reading is consistent at 29degC with a deviation of +/- 0.2 degC, which is rather acceptable to me.

However, the %RH deviation was +10% higher, which seems not normal to me.
Reading on the dry cabinet digital meter was reading at 45%, but the hygrometer inside the dry cabinet was reading 56%, which is 10% higher. Even if i set it to 40%RH, the hygrometer inside will always give me a +10% higher reading than the digital meter.

Because my hygrometer inside the cabinet is not calibrated, i do not know which if the dry cabinet digital meter is working fine or properly calibrated.

But i do believe that my hygrometer is working fine, because if left at room temperature environment, the same hygometer would read 80%RH(+/-5%), which is typical of Singapore climate condition.
If i turn on air-conditioning in the room, the %RH would drop to 60% (+/-5%).

Can anyone advise if the digital meter of my dry cabinet is working fine?
Do i need to send in for a calibration?

Well to be honest I never really bothered about the humidity rating measured by the percentage... I keep the dry cab at max setting and just keep my gear inside... As long as my gear is protected I am fine with it.

And it works great cause I once dropped my iphone in water puddle, completely submerged after which it started acting weird... Turned it off and kept in the dry cab for 5 days... Took it out and worked without any issues...

To check the accuracy of RH for the cab, and your hydrometer, I suggest do a "Salt Test" (google as how to do it)
Leave your hygrometer and the salt plate sealed in ziplock bag as instructed. At the end check the hygrometer reading. This will give you the accuracy of the hygrometer and allow for any error as recorded.

When i turn on my aircon.. rh% drops to around 29. I guess i blast my aircon...

Do a salt test as mentioned by shierwin. If done properly, the rh should be 75%. Just take note of any difference and apply that difference when u read yoir meter the next time.

.. and do forget about the temperature. This is only given because Relative Humidity is relative to temperature.

Hi, I managed to get a reply from Singapore AIPO distributor (Master D'Imaging Pte Ltd).

They said that the built-in hygrometer of the AIPO Dry cabinet has an inaccuracy of +/-10%RH and advised me to maintain the humidity level between above 40%RH to below 50%RH (i.e, 41 to 49%RH).

Thanks for the update. But in worst case the RH would be close to 60% (display of 49 + 10).
I would suggest a display figure of 40%. Together with the inaccuracy of the RH meter it is still below 50%. With RH, a bit lower is better than too high.
