hi all.
I transacted a deal for 60d and 17-40 mm at a whopping low price of $650 earlier this evening with a seller of purported Vietnamese origin.

At 2255 hrs Tanglin Police called me regarding the sale and I made a preemptive voluntary police report at Jurong just in case.

It turns out indeed that set is stolen and my Seller had no legal right to sell the set to me. an officer from Tanglin station is now end route to Jurong side to impound this sweet kit.

see bay Sian.

hope I can either get my money back or my kit (preferably!!!)

buyer beware

sorry to hear that...:(
hope you can get your money back...

actually I would very much like to have the camera and lens :bsmilie:

right now giving statement. I probably shouldn't comment more as it's now a police case.

My stolen phone was given back to me 2 years after they nabbed the culprit. Anyway you won't get back the camera and lens and probably(?) your money.

It is very interesting that such transaction did take place.

First of all, did the seller post the camera and lens for sale in Buy and Sell section? If yes, was the seller asking price at $650?

Commiseration to you.

Paying a higher price doesn't mean we can protect ourselves against stolen goods.

Thieves walk around in crisp freshly-ironed white long sleeves and shinny black leather shoes with more confidence, swarve and respect than you and me.

How do I know? Let's say I have friends who are good at picking locks and disposing ill-gotten gains. :)

..If it is too good to be true, it probably is.

60D + 17-40mm at $650 is a very odd price.

+1
such a price should have alerted you... Greed can color our judgement ...
I hope you get your money back... But it will not be fair to the real owner if you keep the gear.

I did my due diligence And asked him if it was his to sell. luckily can show proof it was a bona fide sale on my part

anyway they have the suspect in custody

Hope u manage to obtain some sort of compensation. Can understand the amount of frustration when it was supposed to be a great deal.

That's why it's always weird in human character that when an item is priced slightly higher they lowball , priced too low people get suspicious or really jump into it, priced at standard they wana bargain. Haha, we r really a difficult species.

Did the police tell you how they managed to track him down?

Its v interesting to know how they do it

Thanks for the alert, Shizuma.

I have bought many used stuff from CS members.

So far (touchwood) no issues.

Best is to check before the sale & ask the seller if they are willing to sign a release form.

This is to attest that that the stuff for sale belongs to them & it was a bona fide sale.

Guess the original registered the set online..

there is a website where u can log in the serial numbers to see if its stolen set....

heng the ps vita i got is not...limited edition for under $150..heh...

may i know if the original selling thread is in CS? we have to archive it in case it is needed. please drop me a PM? thanks?

Saw ah girl girl start WTB threads, have contact number listed, I think this seller contact her directly, so don't have any trace left behind....

If you have specific access logs to her WTB threads or her profile ("Who has viewed my profile?" etc) you would likely have something. But you would need a confirmation of the (dynamic) IP address of the seller in order to find him in the logs if the seller never posted anything here.

Simple.

The authority rounded all men with "purported Vietnamese origin" and interogated them until fatique set in and one decided to confess. :)

I don't think I have the access to activities log of certain pages,

and personal classified section is accessible without logging in, moreover, it has mirror to some other sites, don't think there is a way to track him down from our side.

Ugh that's awful. Hope you can get a positive resolution to this
