I'm still hoping to see a section somehow for newbies, in where the cheapo clients can post and say for your portfolio and stuff like that.

I'm sure there are those who wants to use this as some sort of their training ground (but actually its the wrong way to go)

Then another for more serious jobs.

Maybe for the newbies section, it can be no guarantee sections.

I dont know, its just a suggestion, hoping to weed out those who exploit the industry and for those stupid enough to be exploited.

Any other suggestions?

Don't really see how it will result in any sort of 'weeding out' unless your intention is to ban/blacklist them after they post/respond.
It will be a form of enabling rather than 'weeding out'.

IMHO, No head no tail and it won't benefit anyone.

It is not so simple.

For people who wants to exploit, do you think they want lousy newbies? No, they want experienced shooters if they can get away with it...

Usually the cheapest folks are also the most demanding ones.

So what should be classify under Professional services?

Even professional's rate range from low to very high. So where to draw the line?

Then the budget, where to draw the line?

The best way is, if you don't agree with the price, move on and don't even comment on it.

If this goes long enough, I am sure those who post won't get enough response to warrant them to come back. Of course, there are those who want to do it for free. well, it is their choice and best to leave them to do so. Sometimes being burn once is a lesson learn more than being told a million times.

Hart

how does have a place to allow "cheapo clients can post and say for your portfolio and stuff like that"

can help in "weed out those who exploit the industry and for those stupid enough to be exploited"???

anyway, we can see lot of photographers offering PAID Services and TFCD for All Sort at the same time in the photography service directory.
some of them have to doing these years after years, isn't it more than enough for those cheapo clients already?

if you are saying still not enough cheapo jobs for newbies photographers now.
think carefully, isn't this is a sign of "supply more than the demand"??

we already seen how many so call "customers/clients" they way they look at photographers, $2 jewellery shots, $2 architectural shots, $5 food shots, $5 blogshop shots, still not enough har?

do you know how many full time photographers quit?
do you know how many full time photographers have to take up part time jobs not related to photography in order to stay in their business?
do you know how many just start out photographers can't last for a year or two?
I'm not try to frighten anyone, this is very real.

to be in photography business is not just about can take good photos, or have awesome gears, or good portfolio, more than 80% of our time and efforts is spent on running a business.

To what you have suggested, it is not helping anyone here.

It is so darn true... it is getting harder for people who want to start in this line to be honest. It was a lot easier when I started.

Back in the days of film yes . True professionals are indeed true professionals and they command but not in this age of digital coz too many
'professionals' around.

Situation will not improve.

Because many think it will not help or improve the situation, the possibility of it happening will be much higher.

IMO, one can see it as an way to reach out to eager young artist and provide them a suitable platform. What's more, veterans can provide periodic advices to level them with the skills and experience needed for what you believe in.

In short, to reach them, you need a platform to know where they are. It's difficult but definitely possible.

You have seen the constant "apologies about lack of budget etc" from some people, essentially giving 1001 excuses why they should not be penalised or ostracised for their absurd requests. I don't think your idea, while well meaning, is going to sink in to these people, who think that they are doing the community a great favour.

A utopic vision will only work in utopia, not here.

The cheapo corner! Yea we need one for BnS also.

John,

What needs to be said has been said. Sadly, any comments and advise are only worth a passing words to those who is unwilling to listen and learn.

Any platform is not going to help. It is the best for people who want to seek help find people that they are inspired and find their ways to get those to help them. A day of learning from a real master worth years of practice. It is a very small price to pay to gain years of time.

if the junior photographers are serious enough, they can join the trade associations, they can get training, mentorship over there, and also networking with the pro photographers.

Let me put it very blunt, to have a free service section is more like a Single Bars, for people to look for one night stand.
