Just seeking opinion! I'm having plan to upgrade my camera. Got 2 choice. Nikon D600 or D7100. What are the pros n cons for both? My D5000 had serve me well for the last 5 years.

Do you have FX lens if you get a D600?

And what you find lacking in your D5000 that you plan to upgrade? If you just wanted to buy a new camera of higher spec (not saying that is wrong), then go for the best you can afford. And since you put both D600 and D7100 together, I assume you could afford both of them... then get the D600.

Why?

D600 is a fullframe, bigger sensor, better dynamic range and better high ISO noise performance.

Don't forget d610 n d5300 expected to b released later this yr?

After 5 years of service start to give minor problem. I usually do travel photography n landscape. No don't have fx lens yet

Probably D7100 suits well with your DX lens, though with D600 I guess u still can shoot with Dx lens as well under crop mode?

Just upgrade lah. Both are fine cameras. If you are feeling rich, hang on for the Nikon D600s or the D610 or any other name Nikon will be using to call the D600 replacement.

if you're a casual shooter, the D7100 will do just fine. but if you're really stringent about quality, go for the D600.

but if you love to do fast action, go for the D4 :)

I thought if you are stringent with quality, then you'd avoid the D600! Hahaha!!

You should keep it as a spare. I don't think you will get much selling it. Yes, get the best your budget permits but remember about lenses. Are you ready to buy the lenses you need?

Not enough info to advise you, even though I went from D5000 to D7100.
I can tell you why I changed though. D5000 was getting old and it was better to sell it while it was still worth quite a bit back in 2011. Then I got the D7100 because I just needed another near-entry level camera this year, thus I bought one second hand. When I sold my D5000, I got rid of all the lens... but since I moved from DX to DX, I had to get DX lens back. However, now I could use the D lens e.g. 50mm f1.4D which I couldn't with the D5000 before. This saved me quite a bit of money, and together with the 35mm f1.8 and 10-24mm, I have everything I need.

I guess the question for you is, D5000 has served you well... where are you heading now? To FX and change your entire system (essentially all DX lens will go)? Or just need a better D5000 which can now support even more lens choices and with 2 years of improved technology for the same price?

At the least, wait to see if the D610 rumor will be true (according to the rumors, its just round the corner)
Hopefully they got a final fix to the oil stain issue.

No point getting D600 and lamenting over the issue if hit with it or have few ppl want it when you want to sell because D610 is an 'admission' that D600 had problems.

Between FX and DX, both have its pros and cons.

Since you are only using the camera on "travel photography n landscape" (assuming it's during trips & holidays), why not get the D7100 first.
And start to get FX lenses. Upgrade to D6xx or D800 when ready and keep the D7100 as backup.

My two cents worth.

I agree. Im also upgraded from D5100 to D7100. And I basically sell all DX lens except 35/1.8. Then purchase prime lens like 85/1.8 and 50/1.8 FX, since I intended to go FF in near time too.
