Chai Yee Lin had always wanted to be a doctor since she was young......She studied hard and was over the moon when she found out she had obtained a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) in her STPM examination..... the excited teenager from Puchong, Selangor, immediately applied for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and bio-medical courses with Universiti Malaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Kebang­saan Malaysia and Universiti Putra Malaysia.......she was offered a course in veterinary science at Universiti Ma­­laysia Kelantan

Choong Yong Sheng was one of the 4.0 scorers who was not offered any place at public universities.

“I didn’t expect to be left out and given nothing,” said Choong.

Matriculation student Deveshini Uthandi, 20, who scored a CGPA of 3.96 was devastated when she learnt that she did not make it to the list of successful applicants to the IPTAs.

Maybe they have too many doctors up there so need to control the numbers. Otherwise doctors cannot earn good living and will recommend all sorts of medical operations to meet targeted income? Good foresight haha
 

There is one logical explanation left.. her parents didn't. Offer to pay twice the amount of school fees..

If MLY continues this racial thing against their own citizens we should not complain. Good news for Singapore. Statistically, it is tough to produce top brains. Just quietly lap up all their geniuses. Send the rubbish (a.k.a. sex video+BKT problem child) back to MLY.
 

my cousin scored 10 As in the A level equivalent and could not be admitted into the Uni Course of her choice. I'll come clean. I am human race, Chinese. so is my cousin. Unsurprisingly she left Malaysia to study in Sg and took out part time job and study loan. It is very tough.

MY has a lot of private medical schools, some with pretty dodgy reputations.

well my high school senior was a top scorer, scored perfect As in his SPM (o-lvl equivalent) back when SPM standards were much higher. he was also active in CCA.
he was denied entry to Form 6 (JC) for no apparent reason, despite both his parents being civil servants.

so he took up SG scholarship offer and last i heard he's a doctor here.

NUS makes it to be one of top100 unis in the world. So is Uni of Hong Kong. There are at least two unis in Australia making the list too.

Malaysia with so many unis CMI. How come Malaysia tah boleh? :)

One of my form 5 classmates in Malaysia failed his form 5 exam twice. He went on to be a cabinet minister. There were people complaining of his poor command of English. When you checked up his curriculum vitae, he obmitted the secondary school he had spent 6 years in. :bsmilie:

A teacher told us an ex-Minister of Education in Malaysia failed his Form 3.

These were the people running Malaysian Administration. :)

Actually it is no laughing matter. MLY citizens from non-dominant race do feel grievance. But that's their internal matter. Not for us to say.

Does MLY govt know about it? Of course. They don't care.

This is the point. No matter how many geniuses Singapore has or takes from MLY, due to the latter's sheer country size and natural resources, there is no way that SG can outdo MLY in the long term.

MLY knows this.

One more thing.

After a MLY student with many As gets a SG scholarship and becomes a top professional, earns big bucks and is set for life. Does this student feel loyalty and gratitude to SG?

Some do and some don't.

Once they have money and status, they would like to remain MLY citizens so as to be able to buy many large landed properties, cars, etc..... Since they are not SG citizens, their children do not have to serve NS and many years of reservist.
After SG has helped them to succeed, they treat it like a stepping stone only.

And because they have large land and natural resources (the oil is going to run out in ~30 years or so) they are lulled into a false sense of comfort - that it doesn't matter if we keep letting our best and brightest be lured away cos we can afford to - so let's keep the discriminatory practices - cos we can afford to.

On whether or not a foreigner is loyal to singapore after getting scholarship etc... even children who are brought up with the utmost love from their parents can suddenly kick their parents out of their own homes. one can only hope they will settle down and plant roots here - and the roots are strong and firm.
 

We offer them scholarships, and we get the best of Malaysia on the cheap. They are close to us and highly likely to become Singaporeans...
Win win for Singapore.

Then I assume you will be retiring back to your village in China with your CPF where you built your mansion and large landed property ?

Dont use the same broad paint brush across the board please !

The day will come where it would be borderless. With knowledge and money, you will be welcome anywhere. Where you live, you pay taxes and free to travel. Many today rich areole that.
