Singapore Police admit errors in Shane Todd investigation: Singapore police admit errors in Shane Todd investigation - CBS News

Please lah... half the thing the Todd family claim has been proven false... which include the now infamous Hard Drive... which Mary Todd herself sign for, witness by US Embassy Vice-Consul, Traci Goins, by Sergeant Muhanmmad Khaldum Sarif of the S'pore Police Force. Sergeant Muhanmmad even produce a receipt with Mary Todd's signature... So, how could the Todd family could have 'Found' the Hard Drive in their son's apartment ??

One thing I'm damn angry about is why the US Embassy declined S'pore's request for Traci Goins assistance in the hearing... as claimed by Senior State Counsel, Tai Wei Shyong in Court... if Traci Goins could simply said YES or NO regarding being a witness to the Police returning the Hard Drive... a Hard Drive the Todd claim they 'found'....

Btw... FBI has checked, and agree that the Hard Drive, the one police handed over... and the Todd claimed they found, is the same.

To be fair, the police investigate thousands of cases per month or even per week. Not all officers are up to mark and minor mistakes are bound to happen.

Of course we also don't want such repeat but hope that poor policeman will not get condemn for this. FBI will also have mistakes if you let me scrutinize their investigation.

Serious note, I hope our Police can take their work more professionally. I was once at CID to give my statement to an accountant who had ran off with the company's money. The inspector, answered a call and chatted w his colleague on how to organize their football match for 30 mins.

We managed to charge the accountant in court for CBT. But the police and the judge forgot to ask the criminal to pay back. When confronted, the inspector in charge said, we are not interested in your financial loss. Our job is done. Pls engage a lawyer to get your money back.....

I am not sure if it is true the police is not involves in recovery of money loss but more on the criminal aspect. However, this inspector needs more people skill and better customer service training. The old days where civil servants are king is over. My experience dealing with civil servant is to put in writing and where possible take down their names. They will wake up once you do that.

The police are not your debt collectors. Why do they need to recover your money for you?

Charging him for CBT is one thing, recovery of your cash is another thing altogether and is a civil matter. Meaning that you have to engage the lawyer yourself

Maybe not their job.. but clearly something needs to be done.. he lost money already.. must pay lawyer somemore ?
I think an exemplary civil servants is someone who does more than he is required.. not just do what his salary worth (maybe even less )

Bro, has always been the norm, criminal proceedings and civil proceedings are different and separate. The football match discussion is not acceptable. I hope he lost that match.

I dunno whether he lost or not. They were discussing which police department should play against whom. Where to meet for training, where to park. Thats why it took so long... :bsmilie:

This was the third officer. The first one resigned. Nobody updated me. I had to chase a few times. Met the second officer who was a 'stand in'. After that she says she is just taking the details. Not her job to investigate. This was the third one. Couldnt nail the culprit. It was when the culprit stupidly admitted to the company in a form of medium. This evidence was submitted to the police, then they were able to charge him. If not, they just waited. The whole thing took close to a year.

I am sure they already played a few rounds of football matches and found their parkings... :bsmilie:

when you grow older, have to manage staffs, deal with greater responsibilities, then you know what its like.

The police admitting to errors is good. If they had made errors, then say so.

The police may be doing this as a precursor to what they expect next.

The family of the late Dr. Todd could approach politicians when they are back in USA, to reopen an inquiry (Congressional?).

notice that the headline is "Police admit error", but there's no indication that a deviation from protocol is considered an error.

food for thought.

by the way, as what diver-hloc has mentioned, the Todds' case is flawed in itself, and the newspapers in the USA are picking up on their flaws and portraying it as irrefutable evidence.

just to be clear. you do know that the reporter is just using it to glorify the US' investigation methods over Singapore's right?

do you know how the police work? what they cover? what they do behind the scenes?

if you don't know anything, can you say that they're just protecting the government?

so i take it from your comment that criminals arrest themselves and public order is maintained by the citizens.

I'm just a simple minded creature. Just collect facts like who got arrested, what did the guy do wrong, and who did not get arrested and what did the guy do wrong.

After that, draw a conclusion.

Err... you do understand that the Police and members of the SAF, being Public Servants, are working for the state of S'pore... which means they take their orders from 'that' certain Party... which is the elected by the People of S'pore, which forms the Government of S'pore....which again lead the State of S'pore. Therefore.... do you think its 'Safe' for the Armed Forces to act independently ?? Like in Thailand or Indonesia... where they pull down elected government under some excuse or the other...

South American and large part of Africa has lots of examples where Military Leaders became Military Dictator because they could get their men to do as they want....

Btw... how does it 'Serve' anyone right, when that US Report has missed alot of the facts that is now out in Court ?? The SG Police have facts and written prove that supported their finding... the Todd have only suspicion which they and their Star Witness was unable to prove... even the FBI can't find anything wrong or suspicious... remember, what procedure the US Police Force or FBI use in their own Country... is their own problem... nothing said that the Whole World must follow their way of doing things... no where is it said that their methods are the ISO9002 Standard in Policing....

It saddens me that some will side with outsiders to 'bang' our local institutions

WE judge OUR own institutions....

Just ask yourself .... why do SPF/CNB/SCDF need to slap their own face in public? If certain conspiracy theory want embarassing info to be covered up, it will be covered up. Think about it, no ?

Yeah, I'm still naive thinking that they should be impartial in the eyes of law. You break the law, you go lim kopi. Somehow not everyone who are supposed to lim kopi are invited for that drink. So I'm bit peeved.

Okay "bit" is a bit understatement. I yearn to see they trip on their own legs and got beaten in their own ball game.
