I am organising an outing to shoot sunrise at the Esplanade Amphitheatre (18th May) which is the outdoor theatre at the Esplanade facing MBS and CBD. Anyone is welcomed to join, regardless of level of competency and equipment. However, I am planning to keep the group small as usual (about 5 pax), as it is pointless to have a big group and everyone is doing different things and it gets very messy.

Thereafter, we may go for a breakfast (probably Marina Square MacDonald's) where we can view each other's shots and discuss on what are the areas which are done well and which are the areas which we can do better. I will also be sharing briefly what goes through my mind when I shoot, through the photos I have and a brief workflow. Basically, it is a session which I hope to get individuals to come together, hopefully people can find shoot partners and also have an informal critique session while having food.

Time: 6:15am to 8am(shoot), 8am - ? (breakfast and discussion)
Date: 18th May (Saturday)
Meet-up place: The Esplanade Amphitheatre

Items to bring:
1.Water
2.Camera & lens (any format)
3.Tripod (Important)
4.Umbrella (optional)

Please PM me to sign up. I will not open up a sign-up list here since it is double work for you to sign up here and then PM me your contact. I will check my inbox every now and then today. You will receive an acknowledgment SMS from me once I read your PM. I will also update on whether it is a go-ahead depending on weather, which is quite unpredictable lately.

Information to be PM-ed: Your real name, phone number, gender and age range (e.g. 20s for me). This is to help me to identify you on the day itself.

Please DO NOT sign up here (will not entertain any sign-ups here). Thank you.

Two photos taken here of the same view (now no more balls on the sea)

The above can be done without any filters

The above is done with a 10-stop LEE big stopper filter close to 8am

Sharing the link to a shot by thoongeng (below) of the location which the shoot is at, the location is on the bottom right, at the steps just behind the waters.

Hi thoongeng, thanks for the kind words. Not a master, just a GWC sharing what he learned from other like-minded people. Anyway there is already 5pax so wont be taking anymore unless any of the 5 backs out. And no, do expect a cat as in my display pic, setting up tripod by the sea. :p

Dear all, thank you for the interest. The outing is full. These are the five participants:

1. kazu11
2. ryanlio
3. amagrawal
4. tiki007
5. WeeCK

Apologies to those whom I had asked you to join the next outing. Five person would be a more managable group and thank you for the understanding.

Were you at the Merlion park? I keep hearing voices from there! Heard someone screaming.

Serene

Taken on TS-E17 during this morning sunrise shoot, with minor tonal and contrast adjustments using a single exposure. I have done the reflection of MBS a few times and this time I decided to get up very early and shoot this. As much as a faux reflection is possible, this is the result of very calm water, where I could push the shutter speed longer, i.e. 30sec, yet still managing to get a clear reflection.

For those who turned up, please feel free to share your work in here with us!

There was a bunch of girls there but definitely their screaming had nothing to do with me lol.

Hi Nitewalk

Thank you for your advice.

I did some modifications to the picture:
1. increase the contrast;
2. darken the sky;
3. straighten the buildings;
4. cropping.

don't mind me kaypoh-ing, the buildings on the right half of the photo are still leaning inwards slightly...

Hi thanks for coming. Looks like a good effort too!

The left-most building is aligned so the leaning of the right suggests a 2-axis perspective correction may be needed, i.e vertical and rotation. But having said that, the degree of tilt is very slight. The correction may be minimal. If there was perspective correction needed, it would be prefered to be done correctly in post (other than the ideal case of aligning correctly in camera). Now this slight tilt may be a toss up between correct and don't correct. Like i mentioned to those who were there, when checking for alignment, must check the left and the right as well (i even check random verticals anywhere from the extreme left to the right). This applies also for post-processing perspective correction.

Btw just be careful of the bottom left corner. There's a white corner which i assume is the result of insufficient cropping after perspective correction.
