newbie doubt on Nikon D5100

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and a new DSLR user. I am having a Nikon D5100. When I take one picture, the image will be displayed in the screen for 5-10 seconds, before i can take the next picture. is there any way by which, i can take continuous pictures, without the image displayed after one click. I find it difficult to have multiple clicks. Please advice

firstly, you should be able to shoot puctures even if the image is being displayed.

secondly, if you mean that you want to shoot pictures continuously while pressing down the shutter button, then you will have to set the camera to 'Continuous/Burst' mode instead of 'Single Shot' mode.

Who says you need to wait till the image disappears again? The moment you half-press the shutter the camera switches from image review to image recording ans the screen goes blank (or shows the camera settings).

If u find that image display after every shoot is annoying then u can turn off image review.
If u could not shoot right after one shoot or after a few shoots then it could be that the image is still being written onto your SD card (buffer full).

Check your manual, it's the booklet that came with your camera. A PDF version should be on the software CD that was also in the package. Alternatively, Nikon US website has all the manuals for download.

TS do the following steps,

1) Go to your menu
2) Choose the Playback menu
3) Go to the image review option
4) Turn off the image review option.

There you have it.

Helpful resources in this forum is for people to ask questions about slightly more complex concepts they do not understand. What you need is actually called "index page" of the user manual.

If you want to improve and move forward in this hobby of photography, you really need to learn how to start to explore and find some answers for yourself.

If you want someone to guide you in the basics of using your camera because you are too lazy to read the manual, then pay them to instruct you.

Clubsnap is a great place for *sharing* knowledge, not asking to be spoonfed.

FYI, finding this info in your manual would have taken you far less time and effort than asking on here.

not everybody owns a 5100 but there is diverse knowledge to be shared . camera-specific questions are best answered by the technical literature published

You looked for a shortcut? The shortest way is the index page and jumping to the page shown. But on the other hand: using shortcuts cuts short the learning along the long way. So take your time going through the manual. You might find useful information that you have not expected.

FYI, I have all my camera, flash manuals on bookshelf, so I can refer to them as and when I need them,
IF, I'm too lazy to stand up, walk to my bookshelf, I will just read the manual in PDF files from Nikon site, it won't take more than 5 mins of my time, need six to seven members to answer my question.

Seriously, TS. You should read the lengthy manual. You can make it interesting by holding your camera and try the settings while reading. You'll be amazed by the amount of photography tricks you discover just by reading the manual, and experimenting the settings.

do you know i discovered my camera (a humble entry level DSLR) has custom color spaces , regular jpg or sRGB options... even auto exposure bracketing...lot of stuff which one might not expect from an entry level DSLR...
i discovered all this while reading the manual. Good stuff
