Hi everyone,

A newbie here. I know this topic has been asked many times, but blur sotong like me still need advise from pros here. Coz too much choice for tripods, i need some recommendation.

My budget is around $300, can spread a bit more if needed. My height is around 182cm, i need a tripod that is light and portable for oversea holiday trip. Will be using it to take landscape photos.

Can recommand me some models? I did a search and seem that sirui range suit my budget but not sure which model to get. Can advise? i open to other brand as well.

1. go down to funan.
2. go up escalator to level 2.
3. head to TK foto.
4. go to the back of the shop.
5. Test all the tripods they have on display.
6. buy the one that suits you

TS, what equipment are you using?

Thanks for the advise. Btw, i using nex 6, will drop by tkphoto to have a look also

Nex 6 will be easy to recommend.
You can try out the new Sirui T-025X + C10 ($239.00) or the Sirui T025 + C10 ($188.00)
Another two options are T-1204X + G10 ($299.00) and T-1205X + G10 ($299.00)
For your height, that may be a slight issue... The best option is T-1204X.
Go to TK Foto and try it out.
If lucky, maybe I will be there to provide some advice. ;)

Thks Francis for your recommendation. I'm considering T-1205x too, as i worry the new t-025x might be a little short for my height.

Yes it's super short, tried it few days ago at TK. I'm 1.78 so sure too short for u too.

I personally do not really like the 5th segment of the T1205X/T1005X. Feels a flimsy... But the 1204 series feels abit more solid at it's last segment, but it's abit longer than the 1205 when reverse folded. But still ideal for travelling.

I get the feeling that you may still find the 1204/1205 too short...I'm ~1.7 and I felt that the 1204 is just a bit shorter than what I would have liked..

You should also consider the added height after putting on the ballhead + the height of camera. Also, one don't always stand upright for every photo. But the pain of having to bring a long and cumbersome is the wherever you bring it :)

You may have neglected the height from the ball head. That will add in quite a bit of height.

The Sirui M series is likely to be an overkill for your NEX. I'd say stick to the T series.

I recently got a T-025X + C10 for use with my mirrorless. A total joy to use and bring around. It is so portable and light.

For traveling with DSLR, I use the T-1204X mostly.

Can consider the R series. It's taller , cheaper and light. But the draw back is its still pretty long when folded.

Just get the cheap t-005/x. No point going carbon fibre when the tripod is already so light. Will get blown away by the wind. If taking landscapes, there's no need to take pictures at your eye level, especially if u r tall.

Weight will matter if you are trying to beat the baggage weight limit imposed by the airlines.

height matters when there are railings everywhere

CF tripod will matter if you are already lugging alot of equipment on your back... even if it's by a few hundred grams.

Does a gorilla pod fits the above description? Can avoid railings and is very light.. Kekeke :bsmilie:
