Hello Bros & Sis,

I just return from Japan trip with my D800. All photos stored on CF cards.

I can down load and store on disk without any problem. The problem starts only when I edit the Raw photo and save to disk. It saved half way and hang there, the next thing I notice thousands of tmp files created.

I down loaded new Viewer NX2 from my CD also do not work. I attempt to update to the latest available version also behave the same. At the end I have to then Picasa to work on the photos.

Any one have this encounter before? Could it be the CF card faulty? It is the new CF card 64GB.

Waiting for your help guys.

Bro. Just wondering, why don't your copy the files into your hard disk first? Then edit from there? At least u will have backup in the cf card. That will also eliminate just in case cf card issue during your troubleshooting.
Good luck :)

Thank you akuma,

I did copied all the files into the hard disk. That is the first thing I do. I can open the file ok, I can edit normally, just that when I write it back to save after the edit, it hangs half way the saving process, and start generating tmp file non-stop.

One way left for me to do is to format the 64 GB CF and shoot a few see whether it is ok with the new shots.

I am using Picasa to finish all the photos then I have the courage to format the CF then.

I doubt it's your cf.

I believed you have downloaded and installed the latest viewNX2 ver2.7.4.
That you have copied all files safely, edited them nicely.
That you batch processed all files at one go.
I can imagine each file from the D800 is huge.
The whole lot humongous.

Thing is your computer may have hit its memory threshold and generated a stack or memory dump while batch processing with ViewNX2.
Try individual file there shouldn't be any problem.

But then you didn't mention what hardware or platform you running it on.

Hello anuar,

Thank you for helping out.

I did try to do a batch modification, but I end up deleting all the temp files and did a single file editing but the result is the same. It still hang and keep generating the tmp file.

I aslso suspected the original files got corrupted and deleted the entire folder and reload from the CF again. The result is the same, single file editing still not working.

All others PS CS5, Lightroom and Picasa all can work on the file but not Viewer NX2. yes the version was updated to 2.7.4.

My hardware entirement is:

Files are hold on to network drive, and has 2TG size. Still have 1.2TG space.

Hardware is a Toshiba i7 system, with 8G memory and a 256 SSD. Windows 8 Pro system.

One thing I did not try is to copy to file to SSD disk to work on. It only occurs to me because I could not load the photo to FB from the external files to iPad through iTune also. I need to copy it to local SSD disk then the sync works. I am not sure is it the network setting caused it.

This happened to me before.
Try uninstalling & reinstall the ViewNX2. This won't take you long as it is not a big program

Hi madmartin,

I did that too, but I did not clear the registery. I will to uninstall clean and try too.

Thanks.

Hey pchengws, we spoke on this issue before. I suddenly remembered an issue where the transfer of the files became a problem via USB cable. The culprit was Nikon Trasnfer software was not updated but ViewNX2 is up to date. Why don't you download both the newest copy of ViewNX2 as well as Nikon Transefer? Not sure if this will solve your problem because you copied via a card reader. See if this helps, doesn't hurt to try.

Hi,

I followed all the suggestions, un-install, re-install, update Transfer etc. It did not work.

One thing I wanted to do but did not is to transfer the photo back to Local drive and try it up, and it works.

I can read and edit the files from network drive just could not save it. Before the network drive I used a external drive hooked to notebook and I had no problem.

I need to test out where go wrong with my network setting, because I have set to share the drive.

I guess I am happy in the way it works now, but I have not really solve my problem.

Thank you all.
