I want to mount a camera above normal tripod height, and a lightstand is best suited for me.

Any idea is there an adapter that allows me to mount a tripod head on lightstand?as the size of mount is different. Thks

My lightstand came with this two-ended spigot. I'd be cautious about the overall weight load though. What camera setup are you thinking of mounting? It may not be suitable, depending on the purpose. The average lightstand max load is probably approx 2-3kg? Vibration & shake may not matter so much for lights/flashes, but may be an issue for stills/video, esp if you expect to use it high.

If your stand only has a 1/4 screw mount, you can use a 3/8 to 1/4 bushing:

Silver 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 Reducer Bushing x 5pcs

Not really stable though... blurred stills and 'earthquake' videos...

most lightstands have the 1/4" screw thread end which allows you to mount directly to the camera. Just haven't seen anyone do that before though... but it can be done.

Extension bar attached to a large tripod with centre column extension is much more stable than using light stand!

light stand come in many sizes, so what is your budget and what height you are looking for?

alternately, you can use manfrotto super cramp cramp onto a tall steps ladder.

Shooting architectural siboh?

IMHO, a tripod head just adds to the weight. Mount straight using the spigot is the best.

There are also tall tripods out there, but if you already have the tall lightstands, then...

Ah thks guys, yes I wanted the 'Silver 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 Reducer Bushing x 5pcs', Kandinsky posted.

Light cam with off shoe flash, so should be fine in terms of weight and getting stills.

My lightstand dont have the two ended spigot.
Thks.

tho it is very light set up, do remember to add "sand bag" to your lightstand for safety.

you can hang two 1.5 ltr PET bottles filled with water to the light stand. that should cost you nothing.

Obviously Catchlights drink coke.

I drink milk. So I get the 2 Litre Meji/Marigold/DiaryFarm PET bottles. Those even comes with handles that you can tie a cord through it.

TS can go Giant or NTUC buy some Green Tea, that comes with plastic grocery bag, in case he forget to bring some cords with him .... :)

Every plastic bag has the print "Use less plastic bags" - but aunty happily takes 2..3 to pack anything heavier than a a loaf of bread ...
Alternatively, TS can get those elastic packing cords from bicycle shops. They come in different length with hooks at the end, can also be used to pack and tie equipment. Less than $1 a piece and they last very long.

my suggestion is for emergency use only.

speaking about sand bag, I know some photographers pack beach sand in plastic bags and put it side those very cheap canvas tool bags. it works perfectly and cheaper than buy those sand bag from camera stores.

Ahhh, I'll look into the bottle option, cause it means I arrive light and then go fill water on location.

I think some of those camping type collapsible water bag may work as well?

Does anyone know if those colorful plastic waterproof dry bag, where you roll down the top.
Do they keep water in as much as they keep water out?lol
