Theoretically speaking, a lot of things could be solved if, going by what we learned in school, things are linear and getting from Problem A to Solution B would be so easy.

But in this world where all else isn't equal, you can't do that.

now... here's the question,

Do you think that you've ever solved a massive problem with what you've learned in school using an equation? (engineering aside)

it could be Economical, Political or just between a wife and husband

And your point is?

Education isn't about training you to solve problems with what you learn in school, imho. It's about the training of the mind, to introduce it to different modes of thinking/perspectives. These are supposed to come together to provide you with the right skillset to address real life problems. It's not perfect, but it does ok, especially at the earlier stages of education. I don't think anyone is going to hold a primary 1 class where 7 year olds come together to discuss how to address real life issues.

You have problem brewing coffee ? :bsmilie:

it may come sooner than you think

From the excerpt it seems that these are centered around development of spoken language abilities and confidence (English classes after all), rather than training to solve real life issues. I'd be quite surprised if MOE came up with a syllabus dealing solely with "handling real life issues". :bsmilie:

Yes, in my flower arranging

I mathematically analyzed the method to making a perfectly spherical flower "pave"-style arrangement. Imaging the top surface of the flower as a flat plane. This plane has an associated normal vector. Imagine the normal vector extruding from the center of the flower, and impaling the flower.

Now aim this normal vector into the center of the floral foam and ensure that it is perfectly radial with respect to the center. Mathematically speaking we will get a perfectly spherical flower ball as surface area tends towards zero, forming an aggregation of tangential planes which approximate a spherical surface.

If you understood that, it means you can visualise a nice flower ball. meow.

Sure can:

The school didn't teach them how to solve problems. They only teach them how to write a proper English letter to the authority to complain about the high cost of living :bsmilie:

Which they now regret... :bsmilie:

But really.. where are you going with the question?

yet, before they can write that essay or debate it in class, they need to research on it, to formulate their plans on how they're going to attack their opponents.

burden much?

School will prepare you to be a good girlfriend. :bsmilie:

But Singapore society usually do not encourage local gals to be a good girlfriend nor a good wife....

This is my personal take...
