Personally, I find that our outings has stabilized to a few regular faces but the number of new faces has swelled during the time of K5/Kx and now dwindled down again.
I'd like to find out what do we want out of the monthly sessions.
I know that the group is much larger now and the range of shooting experience very diverse.
This is in the hope that we can provide something for everyone during the outings. (if possible)
Perhaps to attract and grow the number of Pentaxians....

There are regulars like me, who appreciate the chance just to be out with photography as the focus as well as to chit-chat with old friends on all things photography and Pentax.

What about you?
Eg.
1. Tips sharing
2. Gear trying
3. Camera handling
4. General photography tips
5. Specific Pentax info
6. Specific genre of photography
7. Just to have fun
etc.

Hi.. I think I would be good to have experts sharing with us tips and tricks during outings

For example, edutilos sharing his photographt + Photoshop techniques

Or otherwise, we can try some theme specific outings

A macro outing

A 50mm (only) outing

A manual lens only outing

Film camera outing

Etc

my thot is that nothing stops anyone from putting together a small outing for special interests and getting pple to join. this can be done in the outings section of the forum, or if its only for pentax users, just start a thread here.

i mean, Frank had done a great job all this time, putting time aside every month to organise the monthly outing - what i want to say is, others may contribute by putting together other activities for the community.

Good & timely topic, JK. just wanna learn more from you on the Brenizer technique bcos "liak bo kew" :dunno: when reading from Ryan Brenizers' site...

Thanks JK for putting up this thread.

I'm really sorry that I haven't been able to put in more time in the past 6 to 12 months. No excuse really, but I agree it's better to get more guys involved so we'd have more interesting ideas and places/stuff to shoot. But sometimes (more often than I'd hoped) some guys made some suggestions on places/stuff to shoot, but they themselves didn't show up :( Maybe it's not interesting enough after all?

Anyway, we've been doing this for about 5 years already. Let's hope we can continue our monthly outing, and do spare some time to join the others for the fun.

独乐乐,与人乐乐,孰乐? - 'Which is the more pleasant - to enjoy photography by yourself alone, or to enjoy it with others?"

April 12 to 14 2013 there is the Tokyo Auto Salon at Marina Bay Sands. A good time to test the K5/II/IIs, the K30, and our Q/Q10. I would love to go but I have a school event in the evening. That means, if I do go, then I will have to leave by 3.00pm.

As photography is my passion,i use the word "ON" to describe myself in the past.
can't bear to miss any outing.

But due to some unforseen business downfall, is a hard time for me to overcome,
i believe it take sometime & i'll be back soon.

For me i like to do some theme shoot during the outing, like photo treasure hunt / small photo competition base on a theme / weekend across the bridge
model shoot ( Any sudject ) & Etc......!

Haha! just my 2 cents.

Hope to see you guys soon.
Pentaxian spirit goes on..............................................................................................................Cheers!

Keep the information and views coming.

Lurkers and newbies... pls help give some feedback.
What would make you interested to join the outings.

Henry, no prob.
Can always look for me and ask during the outings.
No expert on this though.....

No need for apologies man!
Its really your commitment and energy that has kept this going for so long.

hi JK,

For me i enjoy going outing with u guys.. sort of relax and enjoyable ..
gear talk and ppl are friendly ( most important) willing to share.
Manage a big group of outing is hard in my own opinion.
ppl just drift away unless ppl have a focus point during the outing.

Theme outing is very interesting but if there is a small talk on a particular topic that is inline with the outing
i'm sure we are able to attract more ppl to attend and learn new things.
Small talk like 30 min regarding
1. Landscape if we go sunrise or sunset
2 Macro , birding if we go natural park ( i can help in macro but finding insect keke.)
3. flashing or even streets.. when we go chinatown..( i remember last year at chinese garden a few group is sharing)
BUT there is always a but .. who would wan to bring a lappy and a talker to share his experience

secondly plan early for outing.. i know we are all busy with stuff .. mayb during our outing we discuss our next outing .. and the regular guys who wanted to share their knowledge can choose a date and place so it related to whats he sharing and ppl can apply during the outing.

tossing a few coins.. keke :bsmilie:

Hi, If i change the question to what i have benefited from monthly outing?

Other camera lens gear testing, practical advise on handling from other Pentaxians, hands on learning from experienced members, getting to know new friends, new food locations, going to new shooting locations so far away normally I would not go or did not know, each outing gives me a chance to find out what or where is my passion in photography- macro, birds, landscape, people, street, travel, food, beautiful models, buildings, ,,so far I think I am into landscape n still learning to like macro(tedious), also love street shooting when travelling. I find photo journalism interesting but have not been able to read up on techniques and writing on the go.

What I would want out of the monthly outing?

Suggestions ,
- new members introduction so as to acknowledge n welcome newbies make them feel at home.
- dedicated 30minutes topic sharing as a group. example if today's topic is macro...anyone just raise questions about the topic and get response from the group. The topics we could fix for Jan to June in one go, together when we meet next or online first. We could include topics about Benizer technique, photoshop, lesson of different types of birds, insect, etc. Of course during outing sharing of anything could be done individually as what is being done now.
- take turn to do group photos
- take turn to organize and decide outing so lessen pressure for FW but he is still commander in chief for Pentax Singapore.
- sunset shots
- sports
- food
-
To be continue, going to sleep.

Any events with XMM, I will be there....

I guess I am one of those guilty of skipping the monthly outing for the past 1 yr. Used to be quite excited about the monthly outing to learn the basics or just interact with Pentaxian during my early years.

After a while I find that I sucks in landscape/street just don't have a talent or it, but develop an interest in strobing after attending Baracus's "Introductory to Strobing" about 2 yrs back.

Since then I had move on my own as I did not manage to find Pentaxian with the same strobbing interest, or maybe I wasn't looking hard enough.

Given a chance and opportunity, I hope I can contribute my modest studio and strobing skill to the Pentax community like what Baracus had done. Hopefully to cultivate and grow the interest in strobing among the Pentax community.

Judging from your recent shoots, you are more than qualified to teach. :)
I have slowed down on the strobist front too as my students have graduated to higher craft. I may hold another class if there is interest.

With regards to the outing, I am mostly there for the camaraderie. I hardly take out my camera during the outings as I do not fancy most photography genres (or rather I know I suck) so I am doing location scouting instead. :bsmilie:

Wow, it very encouraging to hear some good comments from the Light Master himself. If you need any human light stand for your class, do let me know, I will assist you on it. It will be good fun.

I am new here and I only joined the outing once, but I think the outing helps me a lot!
You guys all know that there are not many people playing Pentax. Before meeting you, I felt quite lonely since I have to play with myself and have no one to share and discuss.
But after I joined you only one time, I learnt a lot and it made me love photography and Pentax more! You are so lovely!
Moreover, I think everyone has a busy life. So outing gives us a chance to take on our cameras, go out and shoot. Otherwise, I think some of us may not have time and reasons to go out. Then our cameras will cry...

So I want to ask when is our next outing?? I cannot wait for it!!!

I joined a basic Strobbing outing organized by Baracus a year back?. I like it. I would love to join you guys for strobbing activities and to learn how to use lights to make different effects. If there are XMM models, I believe it will be attractive enough:bsmilie:

Riding on the potential of holding a portrait/XMM/model shoot, I think I'd like something that brings those to a "higher" level.

Environmental portraits!

Why? Maybe it's just me, but no matter how good I think my pictures are, I think that when it comes to shooting family/friends/wife/whoever when out and about, my photos tend to look like it; holiday snapshots... -_-"..

One of the reasons I buy a better camera is hoping to take better pictures when traveling. Question is, how? Haha!

I dunno what you guys think but I'm think holding a "Holiday shoot" theme would be nice.

Like, poses and posing with a given background..

I'm looking forward to a land/cityscape shoot, the previous outing I missed because of work. I think there are different purposes for outings, you could see it as a networking or meeting up outing, a gear testing outing, a technical shoot outing where more experienced shooters can share their shooting and processing techniques. So the question is how do you place your outings, than what we want out of the outing. How you place it, will determine who joins. Different people have different expectations so it is very hard to please everyone. But it is very credible of fengwei to consistently organise these outings. Not easy at all, and I don't see similar outings users of other brands. Just my humble opinion.
