dunno i should get the nikon mb-d14 or the phottix bg-d600...
save close to sgd200...
i nvr used a 3rd party grip b4 and am not sure abt the phottix quality and reliability...couldn't find any reviews abt it online....hmmm...

I managed to go outside and take some 'sky' shots. I mounted my 50 1.8G

The camera is clean as a whistle at f16.

Here are another 2 quick pics with the obligatory cat shot. Black cat loitering outside my house for good luck too! Shot in jpeg mode.

Sure. I'll update after taking another several hundred shots.

This one is taken with the 24-85 zoom. Added some sharpening and saturation in viewNX. The F22 sky shots with this lens were also clean.

Hi, Just curious, why did they replace your shutter ? was it the root cause for all the oil/ dust issue?

In fact I did called Nikon up and they say that as long as we are having this issue, they will be covered under their 12 month warranty period. But when I asked them what happens if this matter still happens after 12 months, they say they will still fulfill as long as it is a manufacture defect....

My question is, do we (as consumers) want to spend our hard earn money on things that are defective right from the start?

Customer deserves trouble free newly purchased product.

Why buy something when you have no confidence that you will not hit by known issues?

Well, since you put it that way, then technically every product out there is defective in some way, since it isn't perfect.

Agreed. At least its reassuring that Nikon is not shirking away from replacing parts foc and doing a thorough cleaning as it is now - no questions asked.

Get the phottix, I did write a short review before. Somewhere in one of the threads. I'm using it as well.

Have gotten one also for D800. Works pretty well also.

Yes that was my experience.

Anyone with sensor spots/dust whatever can just bring it in. Its a well known problem enough so they can't deny responsibility any longer.

I'm having fun with mine.

I shot this just now in near pitch blackness in toa payoh.

Came back and increased the exposure in RAW to +2... voila! the shadows are recovered. The colours are all still intact. Coming from a D90, I'm amazed. The D600 sensor is astounding.

Now that I have been with this camera long enough, I know what it is capable of. When taking landscapes at times, this is what I will capture straight out of camera (right after sunset):

And this is what came out after I put it thru a 5 mins LR4 adjustment:

I did not touch the exposure tab in LR, meaning it remains at 0. All I did was to adjust the other basic parameters like shadows, white and black. Nothing spectacular in this capture, in fact might have over done on the shadows, but just wanna share one of the most amazing aspect of this camera, and that's it's dynamic range.

Agree with u... The details in the shadows (or total blackness) is just amazing. U can easiy pull back 1stop or more with the colors all intact and not looking awkward.

Now if only we can do the same for highlights
