was taking an MRT ride from Marina Bay to Novena Station the other day after work (about 6pm'ish) . Witnessed that young people were very kind in giving up their seats to the elderly, little kids and pregnant women even from middle seat occupying passengers.

2 guys even got up and competing to offer their seats to one heavily pregnant lady

Also saw one old uncle who was too proud to take a surrendered seat and left the young guy embarassed who dared not sit back down

it happens all the time... just no one bother to Stomp it.

Yup... I, myself have done it often... even see other people do it... but STOMP is more for people to 'complain'...

Great to hear that. It shows our education system is working. Maybe we should highlight them more often instead of complaining.:thumbsup:

Youngsters scare malu but not to aunty. I was queuing, then another lady behind me. Up come one aunty n just go in the center. No patrol over there else I will ask them to make her queue up.

and 30 minutes after that things start to change as trains get more crowded, there are not enough standing spaces ....

Any shoe offerings?

You can try to go barefoot.
Someone may offer you his shoes.

May I ask how often you take the train? If you commute daily, perhaps you will change your opinion.

True. I have seen people giving up their seats at least twice per week when I am on MRT.

Actually one MRT ride is insufficient to form a conclusion.

That is exactly why some high level people get the impression everything is wonderful for ordinary people on the ground.

When they take the MRT or bus, it is a highly artificial affair. Everything is stage-managed. Planned for months in advance to the smallest detail and controlled to death on the actual day. With a retinue of 20 plus nervous officials jumping to the big shot's every word.

U havent witnessed someone jump the line or fight for the curtosy seat that reserved for the needy......for me....it was mix bag 50-50 good and bad experiences...and if I were to start a thread on that....confirm it will escalated into anti FT thread....:p

I can agree with TS.

Ever since that big hoo-ha that got on Youtube and Stomp where the Ah-Lian and the old aunty quarreled on the train over the reserved seat, I've noticed that many more people are giving up their seats.
Before that, I hardly saw that happening.

I have seen many people giving up their seat since as early as 1997.
The problem is that our news coverage only cover the negative and seldom show people the positive side of society.

So maybe Ed was in same train with the bigwig travelling from Marina Bay ?:bsmilie:

heh heh he I mostly commute to work by bicycle nowadays just to beat the traffic but do take the MRT occassionally enough to meet clients and run errands

yah of course there will be those who lean against post and hog reserved seats but just recently noticed this subtle shift in sensitivities to older folk, pregnant women and little children

but by God its scary to see almost everyone on androids and iphones nowadays .... i seem to be the only one still using a 'regular' phone-call/sms only phone
