G5 is already out

but g5 is using the older sensor which is used on gh2.. one point which stop me from getting one during the long wait of the gh3. I was thinking the ISO capability of g5 should be similar to a gh2.

Yep. For the newer sensors only GH3 has it. That's why my second cam is a EPL5. Best of both worlds :)

price is good at $1445 for body only....
but the size seems a little too big for me.....
hope panny will release a new G series minus the GH3 video features and strip down the size and price....

Bro. If u want the best sensor it's either GH3 or oly EM5 / EPL5. If you like the grip and size but don't want the video, you can try EM5 with grip.

Didn't even know it's the same. :) So they just didn't make use of the sensor's multi aspect ratio in the G5?

It's been mentioned in the usual Rumour sites. That the hw is the gh2 but panny disabled the MAR in the G5

First batch was $2750 w 12-35. If the body only dropped $50, I guess $2700? Incl GST

Thanks Agrivar, will go down to SLRR to get a feel and if I like it..... ;)

bring along the cold hard cash! kekeke..

At 6:23, it says no more half-hour limit ! That's great !

Really ? How come now the tax system allowed more than 30 mins not to be classified as video ?

Where can we buy this GH3 in Spore ? (Where is SLRR)

Thanks

For those who are interested in some field test...

Bro. To clarify. In Asia and in sg there is no 30 min video tax,so no 30 min recording limit. This is a tax for EU countries. So any gh3 bought in Asia or JP or anz doesn't have this limitation.

For the video, I suspect that for USA and Canadian sets the previous gh2 was crippled with this limitation and that the gh3 has no such limitation. But whatever the case no issues with any panny lumix g here in sg not able to shoot over 30 min.

Yes, bro. I am confused.

Can I ask, how come my Sony Nex 5 has a 29 mins limit when taking video ? (I bought this Nex 5 in Spore)

If I am not mistaken, even cameras like Canon 5D Mark II that is selling in Singapore also have this 30 mins limitation when taking video.

Thanks

Probably these vendors are not selling different models. All the panasonics I've used dont have This limitation. Best you ask sony n canon why they don't differentiate.

Check here
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3112114

Quoted by someone on dpr
"All Canon and Sony (dunno about other companies) both have a record limit of 29:59 because of those taxes. They don't want to make and sell different versions of the same camera. People would not buy one and buy the other off of ebay or something. Also, most of the DSLR's made by Canon and Sony can't record till 29 anyways because of the 12 minute card limit on the Canon and the overheating on the NEX. "

Someone else posted "The limit is definitely NOT in North American versions of the Panasonic GH1 or GH2. I know this because I have a GH1and it has been a well discussed issue since the GH1 was originally released"

This write postulates that this limit is due to mpeg codec licensing
http://photo.stackexchange.com/ques...-the-1080p-film-video-recording-time-duration

So many reasons.. But in terms of tax, as far as I know Asia has no such tax. Perhaps panny using avchd also bypasses the mpeg licensing, nett is that this isn't a problem for Panasonic lumix g cams. I've used G2 Gh2 Gf3 GH3 all shoot unlimited video till the card Is full.

http://philipbloom.net/2009/06/03/the-lumix-30-minutes-eu-recording-issue/

I have recently learnt that the 29.59 minute max recording time on the Panasonic Lumix GH1 is not due to hardware limitations, it’s purely down to European Union tax law.

In 2007 a ruling was announced that any digital camera that records 30 minutes or more of video is classified by the EU as a camcorder and is therefore subject to 4.9% import duty (assuming the camera was made outside of the EU which they generally are!) So that is the reason why the EU version of the GH1 has the 29.59 minutes max per clip and the rest of the world doesn’t get this limit.

Would you pay 4.9% (about 60 euros) more in the EU to get the max recording time and have it classified as a camcorder? I for one would.

This is not Panasonic’s fault really. They are at the mercy of the European Union and don’t get me wrong, I love Europe, I am European through and through being dual nationality French and English, I just think some of their laws…well, suck! Panny need to know that the people buying the GH1 are buying it as a camcorder first and foremost and want full functionality like the rest of the world has and have no problem with it being classified as a camcorder!

Please make your thoughts known below and maybe if enough of us say what we want, something can be done. As much as I want to, I am not trying to change EU law, that won’t happen, I just want to see if there are enough people who want the full functions of this camera. 4.9% is a fair bit but still cheaper than import duties from getting one from Hong Kong (although it’s cheaper there). You then get into warranty issues though….I am sure Panasonic EU don’t want people importing the cameras from all over the world as this WILL happen.

Film makers are a rabid bunch and will do whatever they can to get the best!

Don’t think of it as 4.9% more, as all camcorders in EU have this in their prices, even the Canon HV20, 30 etc…It’s actually pretty odd that there is no duty on digital cameras when there is on everything else! Also 4.9% is only around 60 Euros! Not much when you think about the huge improvement.

We shouldn’t be penalised for being European! Not when those former colonists across the pond are chuckling at us when they get to 30 minutes and their little GH1s are still going… Think of all those wedding videographers using this camera as a locked off wide shot at the ceremony or speeches. Or trying to do a long timelapse. The function is there, it’s just blocked!! So please vote, and if you are not European can you show your support for us?

In this Spore Panasonice webpage:
LUMIX DMC-GH3 | Panasonic

it says that Note*3: Motion images can be recorded continuously for up to 29 min 59 sec in European PAL areas.

So, how do we avoid purchasing Europe sets ?

That's a disclaimer for sets sold in the EU. Sg sets can shoot over 30min. Here's a photo I just took. Look on left side of display. Recording 31 min. With remaining 1hr + more. Up to max space on my sdcard.

I have no idea if my GH2 from MSC can record over 30 min. in one go, never tried that the past 2 years... Why would someone want to do that? :)

different usage.. i do record events.. including concerts. most of the time i record event by event during the concert. Sometimes Im asked to record the entire event. This can be 2hrs or more...so yes. lots of usage for recording over 30min. Some wedding videographers may want to record the entire church ceremony etc.. depends

Okay, you've got a point there! ;)

Just got my GH3. Have to say quite disappointed with the EVF. something just no quite right about it.. compare to GH2.
