So how do Singaporeans celebrate this?

CNY reunion dinner

• eat in on actual day - home cook - this is default, as hotel/restaurant cooked dinner (no matter how "atas" or expensive) cannot match cooking by matriarch of the family

• eat out on actual day - prebooked reunion dinner at restaurant or special hotel CNY buffet or food court tze char stall. Expect over-priced hastily cooked un-delicious meals and poor service by untrained temporary waiters/waitresses.

• eat out before actual day - prebooked reunion dinner at restaurant or special hotel CNY buffet or food court tze char stall, to avoid the crowds

• eat out after actual day - prebooked reunion dinner at restaurant or special hotel CNY buffet or food court tze char stall to avoid the crowds

• forget about it, treat as any other day

• family go on tour overseas and have reunion dinner in another country

• oneself go on tour and skip reunion dinner

• family book a cruise and have reunion dinner on board the cruise ship

Wonder if fast food restaurants like McDonald's have tried to advertise - to ask customers to have their reunion dinner there.

Actually it does not need to be expensive, it is the family or people you have the reunion dinner with, that counts. So it can even be a McDonald's meal - one should have no issues with that.

I tried to booked a tour beginning of Jan and all CNY tours are fully booked. So a lot of people are not going to be in Singapore.

Then I tried to booked a flight to Hanoi and was told all flights are fully booked cos a lot of FT are returning home. So not much foreigners in Singapore, I assumed.

Then my sis tried to booked a restaurant on the eve of CNY for reunion dinner and all better known restaurants are fully booked. So I assumed a lot of families are having their reunion before they escape overseas.

Then I checked the TV schedule and realised that MediaCorp has lined up lots of old movies, some from more than 20 years ago and I thought it is the NEW YEAR!

So my CNY is going to be home made dinner and do nothing. Quite boring. Anyone got any programs to share?

Uncle Ricohflex, you should really start a blog sharing your thoughts and reflections and snippets of info about Singapore.

If you want, I can search for all the threads you start and compile into a blog for you, then give you the password. :bsmilie:

[Read: this is another ricohflex blog post in CS Kopitiam. :bsmilie:]
