Correcting distortion.

Took a large group shot indoor @ 24mm using the Nikkor 24-70. The distortion of the people standing at left & right edges of the frame is quite bad. I tried CNX2 to correct, but made it worse (distorted head). I don't use PS.

Any good PP software to recommend (that is not too ex)?

Nope that's the property of wide angle lens. If your people is standing close to the corner of your wide angle lens, they are going to get all stretched and distorted.

no, there is noway to correct this,

that is the reason pros don't use wide angle to shoot group portrait, or at least don't any people at the edges of frame.

you should back up more and use 35mm focal length, or pack them tighter

actually there is this feature in DxO Optics Pro call Volume anamorphosis correction, it design to correct this type of issue, it looks good on screen, but not sure how good is it on full res images.

Went to have a look yesterday, on screen it really looks amazing but I really wonder.. I mean, in LR4, correcting keystone effects and manual distortion control already resulted in quite a significant loss of resolution in full res images from what I see.. :think:

this one really need to do pixel peek than we will know if the results is usable on large prints.


if only good for 4R/5R prints or facebook, than won't be justify the spending.

The trail is full prog and 1 month though. I think I may just want to try it for my upcoming 2 weeks Japan trip out of curiosity :bsmilie:
