Very cool! Can CS do one for Singapore?

Sure, if you fund it and get government clearance for use of a helicopter

First, I need to start a $2 company then have CS give me all its business (through proper tender procedures of course)...

What makes you think CS is a business that organizes photoshoots or gets paid to do shoots, etc? You seem to have the totally wrong idea of what CS is.

Not possible due to the Air Navigation Act (Chapter 6), Official Secrets Act (Chapter 213) and Protected Areas / Protected Places Act (Chapter 256). Before the Van Wagner Airship Group (formerly known as the Lightship Group (TLG)) No. 18 A-60+ American Blimp in StarHub livery (N618LG) and the tethered DHL helium balloon at Bugis can even begin public operations, they have to go through hoops of bureaucratic red tapes from the CAAS and MINDEF. Even so, the former is limited strictly only to Heli-Route Bravo / Charlie with filming and photography disallowed. To complicate matters the airspace 1 nautical mile around the Istana is designated as a restricted area (WSR38) from ground level up towards 10,000 feet (as per altimeter setting) and flight operations with the boundaries of 01°18'17"N 103°52'05"E, 01°16'23"N 103°50'45"E and 01°18'18"N 103°49'54"E is forbidden for single-engine helicopters.

Actually the SAF Mapping Unit (SAF MU) is already carrying out 3D terrain visualization with stereoscopic imagery. In conjunction with the Centre for Remote Imaging, Sensing and Processing (CRISP), they operate similarly to the United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) but of course, their projects will most probably be classified Secret requiring G50 clearance for Category 1 access though one still can purchase 1:50,000 topographic map at S$11.00 apiece from their office at Paya Lebar Air Base (PLAB).

Judging from your past posts, I can see that when it comes to airspace and outer space you're an authority

maybe you want kick start this project first?

Just curious... why film backs?

I understand MF and all, but if they're going to scan and stitch anyway might as well use digital. At most take more images using manual mode (to control for exposure) & restrict to one model of the most popular camera on the market (control for colour cast). Surely batch to batch manufacturing variation will be greater for film even if you buy the same brand etc. :dunno:

that was in 2004, where as many people still have film cameras compare to owning a DSLR,
using the same brand/type of film, the deviation won't be so much compare to the colors, contrast, resolution from different sensors/custom setting of DSLR.
FYI, can ask film manufacture to supply some batch of film, maybe can even ask for sponsorship.

anyway, that was a very ambitious project, sad to see unable to take off.

Dear CSer

I have been using DSLR of different make through out the 4 trial. The following are found to be true.

1) White balance from diff. make does post some problem to post production group (PPG or power puff girl).

2) Different makes has different crop factor, even same make also has different crop factor. Which again had created more work for PPG.

3) Because of the crop factor, alot more photogs will be needed (base on the trial, easily run into the region of 400). As you can see, I had already doubled the no. of film camera needed for this project (new no is 200, instead of original 100).

So on the issue of using DSLR for the actual day is not going to happen, though I very much would like to have all you guys (those who only own digital camera) onboard. For this, pls accept my sincere apology.

Base on how thing are going, the actual shoot will be postpone to next FeB or March, depending on how soon we can get sponsorship.

However, as we are still in process of getting sponsorship (I have no choice, too much cost involve), the trials will be using DLSR so that nobody have to fork out cash.

I hope to do 5th trial this saturday, 20/11/04, 1300hr. I will be needing 25 DSLR (with tripod).

Next, I need "cokin "P" series adaptor ring, 52mm, 58mm, 62mm, 72mm and 77mm. I had fabricated some tools to be used with these rings inorder to level between camera to camera. I had also fabricated level device mounted on hot shoe to level each camera.

The response for the 4th trial appeal for DLSR was very bad, I had only photogs turn up, but only 3 DSLR. The 4th person was task to set up the camera as per the actual shoot.

Pls lend me your support this time round. Many thanks in advance.

how about a smaller scale fun project?

set up cameras to take overlapping photos at the same time and stitch them together
say something that can freeze action

Hmm... Is it possible to attach a camera with a UWA lens to a remote control helicopter or airplane, then set it up, and take photo via wireless remote? Of course it wouldn't be as massive as what was shown, maybe just a small neighbourhood?

Thinking of that... I need to save up enough to get a decent remote control helicopter that could carry my 7D.
