Gunman Shot Dead At Least 27, 20 Young Children

It is really something we Singaporean will never understand. How on earth could people support gun ownership????

Unless you are living in the wild and need weapon to protect yourself against wild animals, why allow that? Two people argue and the most they had a fists fight. Give them each a stick, they definitely use it. Now you give them a gun, the one with a stick is going to be killed!

Let those that support gun ownership be the victim themselves and the answer will be definitely different. When the fire don't burn their backside, they can talk all sort of nonsense.

When there are 300 million guns in the system with perhaps many more illegal ones, can you blame some people for wanting one for their own protection?

Its a Catch 22 problem for Americans... there is an estimated 270 million guns in private hands in USA. I once saw this NGC show on TV... where a Pro Gun citizen ask this question... "If there is gun control and all law-abiding turn in their guns... how could the Government ensure criminals do the same ??" - and that is the very problem US Citizens faced...

* Control guns... and a law abiding citizen may not be able to protect him/herself from criminals...

* Don't control guns... and you'll end up with more shooting of this type year after year...

The issue in the USA is also the attention these incidents garner. Just the right thing for a mentally disturbed person who craves attention and has easy access to guns.

It is either they live with this for the rest if their life or start controlling. Once upon a time, human needs to equip themselves with weapon for self defend. Then we have law and order.

They think they are still cowboy

Pank pank pank

Cowboy vs Indian

it is possible for two or three brave adults to rush a knife wielding man with school chairs , fire extinguishers and tables. But not so easy for brave adults to rush a shooter, unless they are well prepared. I am curious why no teacher, on hearing the gunshots, hid behind the classroom doors to jump the shooter.

Many teachers dies while trying to protect the children :(

So will it be better if a select grp of trained teachers are tasked to wear concealed weapon everyday?

And you immediately notice the word - Injures instead of Killed....

Unless you are some Kung Fu master... it isn't so easy to kill large numbers of people with just a knife... But arm a 12 year old with a AK47 with a 30 round mag...

Actually it make very little difference on whether you injured or kill the kids, I mean, it is tragic that 20 kids and 6 adults die in that attack, but if the American shooters (lets say) didn't manage to kill those people and instead wounded them with whatever weapons, the pyschological effect it have with the surviving and non-injured persons are still pretty permanent and painful.

So someone rushing in and started stabbing kids and/or adults are the same as someone rushing in and start shooting kids and/or adults.

Not sure about you... but I rather my child, wife, sister, mother... goes throught 10 years of therapy... then never return again. You can heal pyschological issue... you can't heal death...

I bet you if you are going to New Town shcool in US and tell this to any of the parents who has lost a child... they'll agree with me...

There's some similarities with the world's arms race :(

The rights to bear arms is actually to protect the citizens if the government turn bad.
That is why it is in the constitution.

I feel that the problem is with the gunman's mother.
She love guns but she should know her mentally unstable son should not touch any weapons.
She should have teach her son how to use camera instead :(

MAD (mutual assured destruction) theory only works if all players are rational.
Unfortunately...

Banning guns is a multi-billion dollar decision so people shouldn't count on it. But I think there is a minimum cost method to reduce this kind of madness. Watching too many documentaries about these things, I think most killers are desperate junks looking for a last moments of fame, sadly, painted by the press. All of them have their names mentioned millions of times by the media, followed by the
people. I think this will add even more incentive for copy cats. So instead of banning guns, a debatable expensive policy, they should just ban all media, press, people from leaking or mentioning about these sadistic gunmen. Just talk about the event, the victims, NOT the gunmen. Offenders may get jail time? publishers may get suspension? It's time for the press and the people to treat these gunmen not as temporary spotlight idols but as what they truly are, ignored pieces of trash. A you-don't-even-need-to-know-who. My two cents.

May the children rest in peace.
