Hi

I need to have my car repaired cos it's getting very noisy. Suspected noise from the alternator (according to a friend).

Please recommend an honest and reliable workshop if you know one, thanks!

Hi fotoudavid

Thanks, I've got my car fixed, it's as quiet as a Lexus now! haha joking.

Since this is a photography forum, I'll post a pic.

They say the sound is coming from the fan belt. So the fan belt tensioner, water pump and coolant are changed.

I'm not technical person and will just follow what are recommended by the mechanic, that's why I need a reliable and honest workshop. At 5.5 years old, this Civic is my 2nd longest "serving" car, lol

Nice to know you had fixed the problem.

I am not too sure if you can change the water pump without jacking up the engine, I know my car when changing the timing belt then can access the water pump, is about 1 to 2 day job. Normally, I change the water pump together with the timing belt.:)

When I heard the boss mentioned water pump, I was thinking oh no, major job and cost. But what do I know, the water pump is a mere $170 (Honda original). I don't know how they did it cos we went shopping after handing over the car.

why must change water pump when change timing belt? my workshop check mine says dun need change when change my timing belt.

I didnt question and when i told my bro in law, he says that it's probably is for precaution for a car of 5 years. Btw, $170 for water pump is it the norm?

For my car in order to change timing belt or water pump, due to the design of the car there is no access unless the engine unit to be remove from the car in order to start work. Not all the cars are build the same, some cars just cost too much to maintain.

The water pump is to help to cool down the engine when the car is running and to prevent the engine to overheat. When the water pump fail and you continue driving the result will over heat the engine, and damage the engine gasket. When this happen then you will need to do the top overhaul of the engine, it may cost hundred dollars and more.
