Full frame benefit

Hi,
I just joined recently and this my first post

Currently I use Nikon D80 and Tamron 17-50 f/2.8.
Mainly to take pics of my kids and when travel.
I'm thinking to get an upgrade.
I'm considering D7000 and D600.
Some friends recommend to take D600 since it's a full frame camera.
But what's the benefit of being full frame ?
What can be expected when shooting with full frame body compared to cropped body ?

for the D600 the camera body come with a build in AF motor which can make the nikon AF-D lens auto focus and the DX camera cant.
the FX is wider, not like the DX which is 1.5 crop, if the DX camera use AF-S lens the zoom will increase

Very simple.

High ISO controls. 17mm on a FX will be nice for travels. Therefore, D600.

With the current issue on d600 abt the dust/oil thing, is it good to hold first and buy later? Can it be cleaned by using blower or must go down to NSC ?

Also what would be the good lens line up which value for money? Can't afford the trinity for sure. Any comment for this combination, 16-35, 50 and 70-300? Will only buy 1 for a start and avoid overlapping focal length.

Hi, do you love shallow depth of field? If yes, get a ff cam and get the 50mm f1.8 G lens for a start, I don't think you can go wrong with this combo.

imho, if u dont noe wat r the benefits of FF, u dont need FF. judging by ur description of ur usage, even a d3200 is enough.

I'm also waiting for the price of D600 to drop slightly more before jumping into it. The local on line shop already dropped to less than 2.5K. Don't understand street price still so stable at 2.7K

Am considering the 25-85 and 70-300 lens combination. Though they are not the best but should be good for my family, street and travel shoots. Probably add a 50 prime.

Online shops are most probably grey sets, which does not carry warranty honoured by Nikon. Hence cheaper

16-35, 50 and 70-300 is really a great combo. I brought all 3 lenses with the SB700 for my trip in China, and I did not miss any focal length. All 3 gets equal usage during the trip. If u choose 1 to start, the 50mm will be a good option

Yup. in the future everything can catch up. But for some, it is better to do it now, than to wait. And how much more expensive is a FF compared to a APS-C nowadays.. not that much. Even on lenses, there are cheaper alternatives as well.

actually 2nd hand FF are affordable... and now we have budget FF ..

i am waiting for samyang 24mm TS lens price.. your post on the tamron 28-75 vs nikkor 24-70 is a good demo on cheap good lens.. although i guess the old tamron AF might be slow..

what other cheap good FF lens u have in mind brother?

The d600 looks like it will be a great success. But it's hardly the first budget ff dslr

to the TS - bottom line is this: if you are using it for mainly travel and shooting kids, do you want to lug ard a DSLR? as a father of 3, i can tell u it is a pain to lug ard my FF DSLR even on trips to the zoo.... much less travels. have you considered the weight involved? actually, what is wrong with your D80? are you upgrading cos you want to scratch an itch?

for my kids' photos, i did it on a DX camera (D50, D100, D200, D300... think even have a D2H & D1x some where in the photo folder) with a prime lens (mainly 50mm/f1.8 but increasingly, AFD35mm/f2; an oldie but a gem of a lens and far more affordable than the f1.4). with a good lens, you can more or less achieve the same quality as a FF camera like the D600, especially if you are not going to print. even for printing, i have done a 20"x30" with a D50 and 50mm without problems. of course, a FF camera has its own advantages like better (but debatable) high-ISO performance and a half-dozen doodahs that DX cameras don't have (which 70-80% owners dun even know or use). if you are using it for casual purposes, is there a need to blow $2K+++ on a D600?

at the end of the day, look at your budget and your needs. the technicalities are moot unless you are earning from it.

The strap can buy online lah. When I was in Japan, most large electronic retail stores carry the various designs too.

Last thing I want is to be so 'loud'. Simplistic is nice.
