I will be visiting Singapore later this month for 4 days. I will be staying in a hostel in Chinatown and will have a panasonic gf3 with 20 and 14 with me. I am looking for some interesting spots for photo opportunities. I am generally interested in architectures (e.g. helix bridge) and street photos (e.g. food stalls). Any suggestions?

The entire Chinatown is a treasure trove for street shooting. You can also take the subway (we call MRT) NE line down to little India from Chinatown station, which is another awesome area for street shooting.

for Marina Park, Singapore River
start from MBS (Bayfront Station), than go Helix bridge, Singapore Flyer,walk along the Marina Promenade, Esplanade, till Merlion Park, than go Fullerton One, Fullerton Hotel, along Singapore River, Boat Quay, Clark Quay, than take a train from Clark Quay station or bus back to China town
for Little India
take a Train to Little India Station, than shoot your way to Farrer Park Station.
For CBD,
take a train to Raffles Place, shoot around One Raffles Place, than shoot your way to Lau Pa Sat, than Go Marina Bay Finance district, end at MBS (Bayfront Station)

Don't forget bugis street.
Take a train to bugis, exit the building and cross the road. The entire area is great for shooting market stalls etc. there's also a famous temple nearby that you can go to as well.

yes, go there during 1st and 15th days of the Luna calender, you will see lots of happenings.
and if you want to see the dirty areas of Singapore, the RAWNESS of human nature...
you can try the streets of Geylang.
there are some prerequisites though:
1) wear running shoes
2) dress nondescript
3) travel light
4) don't bring a huge-ass camera
5) be aware of your surroundings
6) have a getaway car within 2 minutes of wherever you are
