Film vs Airport Scanners

Will be bringing in films of iso 400 and 1600.
Also, do airports have the right to reject hand inspection?
Will be heading to beijing for six weeks and dont want to comeback to find out all photos are unusable.

Several threads on this already. Almost all modern xray machines are film safe.

I read that you shouldn't pack in it check in luggage.
Some claim that you shouldn't put it in lead bags, as they'll just turn up the x-ray power, but then again, some say that this is a lie.

Heathrow: Advice for photographers
This has some advice which I think may be applicable.

I always put the film in a zip-lock bag and into the lead-lined bag, so I can pull out the whole lot for hand inspection, and if the request is turned down, I'll put it in the lead-bag and send it though the scanner. I've only been turned down for a hand inspection once, and it was the time I didn't bring my lead-lined bag. I observed no effects on the ISO400 film though, and managed to get hand inspections on other legs of the trip, so no issue. I've flown many times with film, and was not happy when he said that it must go through the xray, but I didn't want to argue with him or anything, so just accept.

I have not been to Beijing before.

In general I do not check in my film rolls. The faster films may not be as resistant to effects compared to lower ISO ( there was some TSA article on that actually, I cannot seem to find it ) I hand carry all my films. So far I have not seen any fogging from my slides, but they are ISO 50 or 100 only.

Airport staffs probably has the authority to do what they deem fit when it comes to safety. If they refuse, the hand carry xr scanner is a little less harsh than the scanners on check in luggage.

i see.
i dont think that the x rays wont be able to crank up the power though, so will get a lead lined bag. where do i find one?

Yup, avoid putting your film in your checkin luggage.

I put my film in a clear ziplock bag for easier inspection.

A few times, they agree to handcheck, but most times, they'll ask me to put it through the scanner.

My Natura 1600 film didn't have any problems going through the scanner in Japan and HK airports

For ISO 400 and below, usually I don't bother to ask for hand inspection.

anyway I am just digging up and repeating what an old memory of an X-ray film advisory notice says. I saw it ages ago at an airport (fuzzy as to which one though)
