Was keen to hone my photography skill.
Browse through the workshops subforum.
Was apalled by the sample images given by one provider.

The images only illustrated the lack of basic knowledge when shooting products,
even to one not very experienced like me.
the trainee, if any, would be like the blind being led by the blind :thumbsd:

A sorry state of affair
Should we, as a community of photographers, allow that to carry on?
What is your take on this?

What is your take on this?

1: we never take gun force you to join

2: buyers willing to buy. sellers willing to sell. both happy. who are we to stop them?

3: i never attended a single one of the workshops in the workshops subforum. neither do you need to :)

the workshops there, cater to the total beginners. if you want some of the more challenging ones, there is always the eddie adam's workshop around... and many others...
i don't really see much of a problem there.

if you don't like it, don't join it. like what Allen said, no one forces you to join.

and to be honest, you're judging them based on what?

you claim to be inexperienced, yet you know what a professionally done photo would look like. and the way you talk, makes it seem like you know more than what you claim.

if you have anything against the workshop provider, i would suggest you attend first before judging. unless of course... you're trying to smear someone here

@allenleonhart:

-I am prettty sure i didn't mention about force being used.

-If willing buyer/seller means there is no need for monitoring, than all those threads about rogue shops must be a waste of bandwidth to you.

-Good for you that you need not attend any, in your own words, i guessed you are not a 'total beginner'.

I honestly doubt that all the workshops there are for total beginners, as some heading suggested techniques required by a more advance photographers. And a few seems pretty qualified to teach the field that they advertised to teach. My gripe here is with some minorities without a basic concept of what they sought to teach.
I am hoping that as members of a photography community, we should consider placing our beloved art first and money making second.

Will google on Eddie Adam, just hope he is good in the field that I am interested in.

@kei:

sigh, did i say inexperienced? i believe i said not very experienced.

i judged them based on the samples given in their threads.

i know non of the workshop providers, have no reasons to smear anyone there.

mod,

maybe you can help me to delete this thread?
thought i raised a rather valid point, but it seems like its not very welcome here.

well, this thread stinks of self-righteousness.

and you're now judging them.

perhaps we should judge you as well, and determine whether you're a good judge of photography or not based on what you can produce?

if you don't wish to be judged, don't judge others in the first place.

eddie adams? this guy already dead long time ago. LOL

thanks kit.

wasn't expecting everyone to agree,
but wasn't expecting everyone to disagree too :)

@BTBFM2:

that name was mentioned by allen.
btw, thanks allen.

first thing,
the workshop organizer mention the product shot are done by using hotshoe flash only, not studio strobes,
so, if use it properly, it can deliver some good results, but unlikely will be better then studio strobes in all fairness.

second thing,
the photos does not state shot by who, the tutors? or the students? we don't know. really.

third thing,
you have not attend the course, so you have no ideal of what is taught in the class, do you have any present or past students tell you about what have they learnt?
don't you think it is unfair to give such comments base on the photos you saw in their thread?

forth thing,
you have 0 post count, and this is the first thing you do to post in this forum, please tell me how to not suspecting you are rival of this workshop organiser? lol

hi ben :) if i call you shifu would you recall who i am ?

the images i was referring to was clearly done by studio lights,
one of the product has the reflection of the softbox used.

anyway, wish u r fine n a happy mid-autumn festival to you :)

Eddie Adams is not alive anymore either...

and i do share the same suspicion as Uncle Catchlights

btw. i should think that this is TS as per his given name "Seah Beng Chiat":

PHOTOVIDEOi - Google Books

i know. but ansel's been dead longer. probably b4 some were even born.

I see, yes I can remember... thank you, happy mid-autumn festival to you too. :)

So far only one workshop advertiser offer product photography.

for that photo, we will have to ask them to clarify is using studio strobe with softbox or hotshoe flash with softbox....

anyway, with your standard, you will be better of digging out some late Dean Colin's books or some product photography books from the National library and practise on your own.

these workshops ain't suit you.... lol
