New Nikon 1 Nikkor 18.5mm f/1.8 announced

With all the hype surrounding the new D600, im not surprised that the announcement of a fast prime for the Nikon 1 series has been overlooked by many!

I'm all for DSLRS but the Nikon 1 series is indeed handy for snap n go situations because its so portable!

The Nikon 1 Nikkor 18.5mm f/1.8 is a fast, 50mm equivalent “standard prime” for Nikon 1 System cameras. Compatible with the Nikon 1 J1, J2 and V1 compact system cameras, the 1 Nikkor 18.5mm f/1.8 is currently the fastest CX-format lens in Nikon’s line-up. Equipped with high-quality glass, including an aspherical glass element, this 1 Nikkor lens delivers edge-to-edge sharpness even at maximum aperture, the company claims. Supplied with a front and rear lens cap, the Nikon 1 Nikkor 18.5mm f/1.8 lens is available from 1 November 2012, priced at £179.99/ €219.00. A lens hood and a soft case are available as optional extras.

Its a beautiful lens good for night shots! I have a spare J1 with 10-30mm F/3.5 & 30mm-100mm F/3.5 lens I took quite a number of shots with it on my Asia Tours the results was fantastic for a small and simple camera. It can match any DSLR in terms of image quality. Not too bad for its price.

It depends on the lens...this one is being sold for USD$186.95 on Amazon preorder - so with the very favourable exchange rates today plus US taxes - it will come out to about SGD$250 (maximum).

Let's see if the SG retailers can match this price.

I'm still amazed that Nikon isn't able to announce the price on launch day like in Japan, Europe and US.

Actually since they announced the f/1.2 portrait lens I am more looking forward to the latter one. I might skip the 18.5mm f/1.8.
