Marina Bay Night Shot

1. In what area is critique to be sought?
Any form of critique & comment is welcome.

2. What one hopes to achieve with the piece of work?
To improve my night scene photography skill, by getting the comment from the expert.

3. Under what circumstance is the picture taken?(physical conditions/emotions)?
Taken around 1020hr with D5000 17-50mm lens with tripod, ISO200 18mm F10 25sec.

4. What the critique seeker personally thinks of the picture?
I think the composition is alright here except the railing on the bottom left and right corner. Somehow think that the neon lightning from the building is too bright, causing the company logo over exposure. For the cloudy effect, I like it this way.

Any suggestion on improvement is welcome.

You might want to shoot earlier because the highlights will be blown which can be seen from the lights on the buildings. U mentioned that the neon light is too bright, it is more of because the sky is already very dark, and overall that is very big contrast with the lights on the buildings, hence you would blow the highlights that way.

The verticals are not aligned correctly as I presume your camera is tilted upwards? Assuming you get the alignment correct, I would think it is quite tight on the left and you may probably cut one of the buildings off even. As u have already gone 1mm more than your widest, you might want to rethink which building can be left out of your frame. You don't have to include everything but try not to cut prominent buildings off, which is what is happening on the left.

The bright signs are too distracting..but can be toned down by some post processing..the composition is abit odd.think u would need to move abit back or zoom out.cause it makes u fill abit claustrophobic...u could also align the buildings so it's sort of straight ontop..the line where the water is can go from the middle left side of the frame to the bottom right corner....lastly u don't have to squeeze in all the buildings..more space to the right would create a different impression =)

Agreed with Eggie87~ its too tight! try to give more breathing space for the buildings, clear up the bottom left railing will be good

You will get a better angle from the MBS side. Assuming you are at 18mm, you should be able to get most of the buildings in the frame. Set to between f8-11..gotta experiment ya. The buildings may still tilt a little which can be pp-ed in photoshop quite easily.
