I need a prosumer compact to go places that I can't go with my D90, no thanks to the size and weight. I'm looking for a compact that gives good images without much of a tripod set-up, hence shortlisted these 2 with f1.4 apertures. Any other suggestions that I have missed out with decent handheld night shots would be welcomed, since I doubt Samsung or Panasonic won't screw up for day shots anyway.

Having enquired on the prices, Samsung is about $100 cheaper and has an articulating screen. But having owned a Lumix before, I was pleased by my TZ3's images then and I suppose I won't be disappointed with the image quality of LX7. But human being human, I won't pay more if the Samsung can do as good at a cheaper price.

What would you recommend? Any potential weaknesses that you wish to highlight would be welcomed too.

A lot of new stuff coming in the pipeline. You might want to wait out a couple of weeks for the announcements to come out...

Heard there is a Fullframe compact camera from Sony coming out too...

Actually I would suggest the Sony RX-100, but if cost is an issue then one of these.

Wow, any links to this rumour?

Waiting a couple of weeks isn't an issue, only if prices will come down.

How is EX2F real world image performance compared to LX7?

I saw the news on RX1, but won't go that far. Even RX100 is too high for me.

i have used both

the EX2 build quality is good BUT the previous EX1 build quality was WOW good !
the articulating AMOLED screen on the EX2 is great for low down or high up multi angled shots
the main point is that the EX2 has wifi capability if you are into that

LX7 is a great camera too and better build quality

both have different operating systems which are easy to figure out and use

Wondering how is the picture quality and ISO performance of both cameras... Hmm...

Thanks.

toying with the idea of owning 1 of these 2 cams, Fuji XF1 woud be a good choice as well.

So which of these 3 would be a best choice for noise control (up to ISO 800/1600), pocketable, colours & ease of use;)

Samsung scores a lot of points with the articulating lcd.
