Hi Fellow Pentaxians , I am going to buy K01 for my trip to Taiwan , pls advice the best lens for K01,
The reasons :
1,I buy K01 because small in size and gentle on pocket
2,My first DSLR and I think I like Pentax because of WR features.
I need to buy dry cabinet ?
Maybe this thread is very common but I have tried to look for infos cannot find them :)
Pls help :)

Bro , but k-01 is not WR wor . U might want to consider k-30 or K-5 for WR.

Personally I feel dry cabinet is important :)

You can get versatile lens like DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 and the price also gentle on pocket. U can find it at online Pentax WebStore (Pentax Web Store)

to start off cheap with WR. buy a K30 with DA1855WR kit. maybe u can even try to see if anyone selling the WR kit lens in bns. it will be slightly cheaper.

thanks poseur I saw many sales of lenses in classified but don't understand many of them and theirs uses, and they have great different in prices :)

Use this as a guide for lens AF speed.

Things to note:
1. K01 is a MILC, not a dslr
2. Its not WR
3. WR camera will need WR lenses

Other than the few points, it packs a punch for the price :)

Wow that was nice write up pinholecam , no wonder the thread on K01 always pair with DA 40xs lens
Thanks Bro :)

So I buy K01 for $567 and pair with DA 40mm xs f2.8 $305 and digicab $110 should do the job :)
Just saw this K-30 Lens Kit w DA 40 XS Black only $1143, may I know is the same lens as above?

agree, sometimes, when buy K01 and DA40 XS as a set, it is cheaper, around 700 sgd. hope u find a good deal

IT show is this weekend, and you buy the set, mostly you can get the digicab as free gift.
check http://itfairsg.com/

DA 40XS is the same lens.

K30 is best combo with DA 18-55 WR for weather seal
K01 is best combo with DA 40 XS for lightweight

DA40 while good, is a prime lens..so not sure how experienced you are and might still prefer a 'zoom' lens

I use 50mm prime as daily lens, 40mm should be no problem for travel, just different style of photos (half body portrait pop-out from framed background, more people focus ) compared to with kit zoom lens (full body standing in background, more background focus) ,

here is an example of 50mm view, framed half body portrait, 3 meters away from subject

40mm prime lens is lightweight, small and help u deal with dark night evening shots

18-55 zoom lens is convenient for range, good in daily light shots, have tough time in dark night

thanks Sunny the itfair thread cannot find pentax dealer lol :) and yes I try to snap some nice good memorable photo using 40mm and the rest cover by idiot proof camera,

Thanks Yamakasi , I try not to use zoom because I don't have 'feel' of camera angle everytime when I used idiot camera I tend to zoom in full and picture always blurr . The K01 got stablelizer and f2.8 fast enought for shaky hands .
I just learn new word like bohket of lenses the "feel" correct me if I am wrong that DA 40mm XS very good.
I have been hunting for my first digital SLR for months and waiting for K30 but K01 now offer :)

K-01 with DA40mm XS is good for street shots. K30 with DA18-135 is good for holidays where you can even shoot near water. For DSLR, you can use different angles too.

imo, you should just switch focus to K30. i find that its more versatile and its easier to hold. i like the K-01 as a concept but i didn't buy one cos i don't think it suits my needs :)

the K-01 is not exactly "small" - even with the 40XS, its not "pocket-able". it also has no viewfinder so you'll be using the rear LCD to compose and focus - not exactly an easy thing to do with a big camera and even less comfortable to use if u're pairing with a big lens like the high end DA*16-50 or the DA*50-135.

the K30 retains traditional DSLR ergonomics - you hold it close to your eye with your right hand and support the lens with your left hand - its a more natural posture for a camera bigger than a compact PNS.

and not to mention that it has 2 scroll dials so u can control both shutter and aperture easily when in M mode and it is WR - u'll probably enjoy using it more :)

the beauty of using pentax is the availability of high quality prime lenses - from the relatively affordable 50f1.8 and 35f2.4, to the high quality DA and FA Limited.

but for holidays, i strongly suggest u use a zoom like the 18-55 or 18-135. if budget allows, a fast zoom like the DA*16-50 or Tamron 17-50 is also very good - easier to use, less to pack. at most, just pack 1 more fast prime that u like to use for low light. its no fun packing a big camera bag and changing lenses all the time.

Suggest go to shop and put your hands and eyes on both camera and then don't buy and come home and decide. It's always dangerous to decide there.
