Fot crop cam, 18-200. For FF cam, 28-300. Of course you will need to use flash as well.

Nobody know... bcos different wedding venus and situation called for different lens... and that is the same for the composition and stuff like that that the photographer wanted to take. So if you are betting on just getting one lens, then you must really know what you want and what works for you.

For me, I would go for the 70-200mm f2.8 VRII (Nikon)/ 70-200mm f2.8L IS (Canon)... plus an external flash.

Waaa... Ad wedding no need wide angle ar? Power!

can........ why not?

during a wedding, got shoot makeup session, make up kits, wedding grown, costume jewellery, wedding decoration, cover the veil, little brother open car door, groom and brother group shot, in the lift car, gate crashing, torture session, .........family group photos........... tea ceremony...... couple photos in bed room............ remove veil.................couple inside the wedding car..............dog cat gold fish birds in their house................group photos with guests............ kids rounding around.........wedding march in........... cake cutting........ tea ceremony during dinner, 2nd march in....... pop and pour champages............. table group photos...........bid farewell.....

see, so many things to shoot in wedding, just pick whatever photographers feel like to shoot and want to shoot lor.

Agreed. This is the most versatile setup for any type of photography.
Its the "get the image more important" as compared to the "absolute best possible image".
The rest of the lenses are more specialised in a different way, 50mm f1.4 / 85mm f1.4 / 14-24mm / 24-70mm / 70-200mm and none of them can match the versatility of a super zoom, although quality is another matter.

Any lens you want. But if you want to do it properly, you would definitely need more than one lens. Even if they create 20-200mm f/2.0 it would probablyyyy not want to carry it around for the entire duration.

If not proper, use cracked lens also can.. After all hypothetically taking 200 black frames of a wedding is also coverage.

What about 24-120 mm lens ??

in a typical Chinese wedding day event, from day event to dinner event we probably will have about at least 200 different scenes to shoot, some are without people, but most of them are with people, some are close up, some are tele, but most of them are wide shots.

unless you able pick anything you want to shoot and don't have to do the rest, if not, you will have cover all of them. so a more sensible choice is using a zoom lens which able to cover wide to tele.

most wedding couples their basic requirement for wedding photos is very simple, sharp sharp and clear photos, if you able to provide them with sharp sharp and clear photos, anything better than this is bonus to you and to them. But if a photographer still struggling of producing sharp sharp and clear photos, I suggest just keep it simple, do the basic right before try something new.

hypothetically or not - I would never hire a 1 lens wedding photographer for a start... 1 camera as well right?... if something goes wrong you have ruined their wedding - be responsible to your customer. :)

Use a 17-35 / 16-40 f2.8 / f4 type lens, and in a lens in the 50 or 85 1.4 range, and get out the 70-200 f2.8 area at least.

Weddings are not cheap for a reason......

In the Film days, I used to use 28mm manual focus for the whole day.
In the digital days with AF, for Crop 18-55mm and FF 24-80 mm will be good.
It depends on your style. For starters, the above will be fine.
Of course, with a powerful flash and plenty of battery and memory.
If you are not the main, try anything you like.
