Hi there, I just brought a Canon 28-105mm F3.5-F4.5 USM lens & I'm using a crop body. But I'm not really sure this lens suitable for, if I using it for streets shooting? What do you guys think & please guide me along. Thanks!

Stop worrying so much and get out there and start shooting :)

Worry less shoot more ;)

It sounds you need more a justification for owning this lens than really knowing what this lens is good for and have a case of buyer's remorse. Why didn't you think of this before you bought the lens?

I would agree with this. Know what focal length you need before deciding what lens would fit those needs best.

The best way is try it out urself. Go out and shoot and see if it suitable for you. Otherwise sell it and get another one of your preference.
For me, 28-105 good for street shots. focal just nice up to shooting portraits. I'm using Tamron 28-75/2.8 btw. Just my preference.

Just use the camera and lens and you will find out 1st hand. ;)

Since you already have the lens and camera, why not just go ahead and try shooting with it?

Do u mean u u find the 28mm end on a cropped body not wide enough?

this is an excellent lens. older but great quality. it is good for street and good 3.5x zoom. admittedly 28 mm on crop is tight but still manageable.

try going to 105mm and get up close to subject. creamy bokeh even though 5 blades

Well he could have been quite confused with the amount of information he had to sift through when buying the camera/lens. After all, different photographers have their specific preference. Someone liking a 50mm for street photog may not sit so well with others and it can get pretty confusing listening to different multiple views at once. So right now, he might be a little confused as to whether the lens would be something he could use well for his intended purpose.

We were all new once. Since he has already purchased the lens, let us then encourage him on his journey and help him find out what he can really do with his setup.

Agreed.

Everyone of us goes through the stages. TS... just go out & shoot with the lenses you have, analyse the pics.
That the journey you've to go through.
Just keep your $$$ by not buying any more lenses. The time will come when you know what you need.

Have fun shooting...

Apart from what has been mentioned about the logic of buying first and asking second .. there is no such thing as 'one lens for one purpose'. Many lenses can do the same job, but will deliver different results according the specific characteristics of the lens. You got a zoom lens, you can chose between the wide angle, the normal and the telephoto end of the lens. See what works best for you. There are famous street photographers using wide angle lenses, nearly pushing the camera into people's face. Others use the telephoto end to remain unnoticed. The question is not 'Which lens to use?' - but rather 'What do you want to achieve?'. Select the lens / focal length accordingly.

After reading your question... I am still not too sure what TS is missing. Any lenses can be used for street photography, just how you are going to use it. I remember reading somewhere that some guys actually uses a 300mm prime lens for streets... result is pretty alright too.

Like what Octarine had mentioned, there is no one lens for one single purpose.

Actually depending on the user, any lens can be used for any situation, like I use my macro lens for streets, and my 50mm for macro purposes. It is up to the creativity and imagination of the user.

there is a shooter in Canon subforum using a 300mm Medium Format lens adapted to 550D body. *shrug* whatever works for you, that is most important.

street photography is very dynamic, any lens will do, depend on your composition style or target...i've read some pro doing street shots using 50mm prime. focal length is not an issue i think.
agree with them, you need to go out and shoot....

imho, any lens can be used for street photography. the focal length is decided by your shooting style, just like i prefer using my 35mm prime on my crop dslr and 50mm on my slr.

If you aren't sure, why buy in the first place? Did you buy for the range? then maybe you should have considered getting 18-270 instead. Let me do the math for you, since you are so dependent on others.

28 -105 X 1.6 = 44.6 - 168.

Basically, you won't be able to do wide angle or ultra wide angle shoots in the street. You can do bokeh shoots, depend on whether you know where to aim, not too sure amount of spoon-feeding would do for you to get it either.
