An excerpt:
"When people are extraordinarily happy with their food, they take a picture and share it. Why? Because they know their friends will relate. Because it makes them feel special and important to be eating something so tasty or unique. Because it’s a way of marking where you are and telling people what you are doing. Whenever we travel abroad, we always make special note of the food. When you think about it, that seems odd.

We spend 3-4 hours a day eating, at most. So, 1/8 – 1/6 of the day is spent at meals. What about the rest of the day? Sure, you can have a great night’s sleep, but you don’t take a picture of your bed afterword. When you have an easy commute, do you take a picture of the open road? When your boss is happy with a project you’ve completed, you don’t snap a picture and share it (confidentiality aside)."

To be honest I have more friends on FB who shares what they eat then those who goes for proper photography outings. :dunno:

Why is taking a pic of what makes us happy odd? To the non-hobbyist, going for a holiday or outing just to take pics and staying for hours at one location to shoot the same scene over and over again is odd...

It's like momento, u don't shoot the food ur mum or ur wife cook, not because they are not good but that is something u seeing daily, no poInt, for special occasion, u tent to do it for memory, not only for photography, even souvenirs, I bought a lot of magnets, key chains and sometime post cards in foreign country but I have 0 merlions and Sentosa :)

( Within legal limits ) Why are there now guidelines on what I am to shoot and share on social media ?

Its fine for me. Its not disturbing me nor its harmful.. just sharing. Its good. Different people do different things...some share these..some share otherwise.
Food is a necessity for everyone..who dosent eat? Infact many enjoy eating more than anything else..so its like sharing the joy around. Why isit odd?
:)

but that's how some people get their food... you know... through hunting :bsmilie:

There is a Chinese saying - '民以食为天', literally means that the issue of food to the people is as big as sky. Chinese or not I believe nobody will disprove that food is the most important thing in people's lives. And food today is more than just something to eat, it's a lot more than that - food may be used as art, as demarcation of cultural identity, as medicine, as ritual, as means of communication, etc... I see lil difference btw sharing exotic food photos and beautiful landscapes...

if you like to take picture of your foods, just do it. why do you care what people think? you want to post what in your facebook is your problem. people ask you not to shoot, then you dont shoot meh. people ask you to sleep in dustbin , then u also follow meh.....

shooting nonsense or stuff that are uninteresting are very common nowadays. It is call "marketing".

Sharing the photos of food is such a great idea as half of the world is starving.

The pictures will make them less hungry.

Too bad, you can't enjoy it. But at least people will know who to blame :bsmilie:
