Hi all ,

I am the type of photographer who enjoy taking scenic schots . A lil stressed up about which DSLR to get here as it is my first and i wanna get it right . i have a few entry-levels one in mine the nikon 3200D or the Canon EOS 650D . i wouldnt mind if you guys recommend other DSLRs to me too !

another question i have would be if i should purchase the kit or just the body . i am still unsure/confused about the way lenses go about despite reading them on clubsnap and online pages

Hope you guys can help !

Thanks !

HuiJin

The Canon 550D is an outdated model compared to the 600D and 650D.

the D3200 is a newer model from Nikon, replacing the D3100. so it's not a good comparison.

and as SkyStrike has mentioned, there are so many articles and threads here for you to read to find out which is the best for you

I suggest going thru the stickies again (if you have read them)

Hi senior !

Many thanks for your quick reply ! and thanks for redirecting me back to the lens thread ! made me realise i missed out some of the pointers i missed out there .hence , im clear that i would start off with the kit and decide if i want to buy more lenses from there to improve my photography !

good move. a lot of newbies start out wanting to buy every lens. in the end, they confuse themselves. best to start out, learn how to get the picture right, and in the process develop your style and find out which genre you love to shoot most.

then you'll know what type, and what kind of lenses you'll need to further your skills and take it to another level.

have fun!

personally, i'd recommend the D3200 if it's between Canon and Nikon.

but if you're open to other brands, you might wanna check out the Pentax K-5 or the Sony Alpha A65 or A57

before you go ahead and decide on the camera body, do some research on the lenses that are available from each brand. See if there are any lenses that you think you may like to use(or can afford). If you like a certain lens from a particular brand, buy the body from that brand

I am not a fan of kit lenses but I think they a cheap and good way to start and learn. Depending on the type of photography that you do, some kit lenses are sufficient, so no need to purchase more and more lenses.

+1 for pentax k-5 ^^

no problem, we all started off confused (probably still confused now :bsmilie: )... But also do check out what other brands like Sony, Pentax, Samsung offers too.

i think this isn't a big issue.. let the newbies learn first before killing them with too much information

All the major brands make fine DSLRs.
Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sony being the few making DSLR (or 'like' DSLR SLTs)
Each will have their pros and cons.

Since you already know of D3200 and 650D, then I provide some info on the Pentax K30.
PENTAX - K-30 Black
Pentax K-30 16MP weather-sealed mid-level DSLR previewed: Digital Photography Review
Its coming into Sgp in about a week and initial rumor is that its going to be under $800 for the body.

i dont exactly have a budget , i just wanna make sure i buy the right camera .

That is a good question, many people still searching for the right camera after owning so many cameras.
Anyway, just need to get a camera to start, a newer model will come out every one or two years.

im currently slided to buying the d3200 but im still looking into the various models before i really buy one . like i mentioned in the OP , i prefer taking scenic pictures . i wouldnt mind buying a semi-pro one i just need to make sure i read more into the cameras and how to use them .

i'm sure the D3200 is great. along with the 24MP sensor comes greater dynamic range. however, do take note of what lenses are compatible with it.

in that case, just take the plunge and buy the d3200. learnt the basics and shoot more photos. get a semi-pro when you outgrow your d3200

even if you get a semi-pro now, there's no guarantee you'll stop here. you might be tempted once the new models come out

Please drop the illusion that there are 'cameras for scenic pictures'. That's similar to the question popping up here every months about 'Which lens to use to take pictures of wedding / children birthday / cityscape / newborn baby / you name it?'. All cameras offered to consumers are able to take scenic pictures - provided the person behind the viewfinder know how to handle the camera. The concept of DSLR is to have different lenses for different requirements.
Define a budget, read reviews, define functions and feature you must have (video? tilt screen?), shortlist 2 or 3 cameras, go down to the showrooms and molest them there. Only if you really feel comfortable with weight and ergonomics you will have fun.
Next year the market will have the next newer models of cameras, it will continue this way. It's consumer electronics, not long term investment. As long as the camera in your hands does what you need you don't need anything else.

well, don't take too long to decide than,

else you will have to wait for the next better newer model, and the next........ and the next ....... and the next.....
