Cheap foldable/small bicycle

Hi all.

Looking for a cheap foldable/small-wheeled bicycle for commuting from home to city area.

Because I stay too close to city area so taking the mrt or bus can be a slow and time-wasting experience. I might as well walk but walking is tiring and singapore is too hot to spend 15 minutes walking.

Any suggestion of price and store location? If someone has something like this to sell me can PM me too.

MyBikeShop at West Coast deals with Dahons, which are a decent brand for foldies (I had 3 over the last few years)

I think Gee Hin Chan at Waterloo Centre is also an authorised Dahon reseller, but their range is smaller. There are also a couple of bike shops in the East that sell foldies, but I'm a West person...

I'd avoid the supermarket brands (Carrefour carries Aleoca) -- they don't seem as well made and I've heard many creaking examples. Foldies need to be made well for obvious reasons!

The first foldie I bought was a Dahon Easy 6+, cheap and cheerful at $450 from Gee Hin Chan. I think it later became the Dahon Eco 2 or Eco 3, at under $400. Though I bought more expensive foldies later, that was my workhorse -- I commuted to my office 5-6km away on it for over a year, and apart from minor adjustments, it held up well.
BTW, I'm at the upper end of the bike's 105kg weight limit, so TS, you would have little problems

TS, my friend bought some foldable bikes at a shop at East Coast Road.
They are in the $250-280 range and I've tried them - they feel well-made and ride smooth.
Seems like good value for money.

Yup, I did. My office had the space for my regular bikes too, but not everyone has that luxury. Foldies can fit under some desks, or some other unobtrusive space. You can also bring it on the bus or train (some conditions apply!), which is sometimes useful.

Re the shop at East Coast Rd, I think you're referring to Monotine Bikes (http://www.monotine.com.sg/index.html). I did try them out - they have some decent bikes, somewhat less refined than the Dahons, but perfectly good. And yeah, cheaper too

IIRC, Boon Bikes (Boon Bike Supply Pte Ltd - Warranty) also stocked some foldies, including Dahons, but these may be grey market -- I remember some China-only models. Not sure if the warranty or lack of it makes a difference to you.
