Canon EOS-1D X Delays [CR2]

What’s going on?
I have heard just about everything as to why the Canon EOS-1D X has been delayed for almost 8 months. I’ve heard blame being placed on battery approval in Japan, FCC approval in the United States, production issues with certain parts of the camera, serious firmware issues that had to be resolved to name a few. Canon has kept the issues very close to the vest and very few people know the exact reasons.

So?…..
Recently I have been told by a couple of people that the version of the 1DX that has reached select AP and CPS photographers are not in fact production cameras, they are preproduction. Canon felt it was important to have the new camera out for Euro 2012 and the Olympics in London. It’s suggested that the cameras that are in the hands of these photographers will infact have to go back to Canon and will be replaced with the production model whenever they are ready.

That seems strange, no?

If anyone with a 1D X can confirm this, I’d love to hear it.

CRs Take
The above may be untrue, however an 8 month delay in this day and age is a pretty unique thing. It tells me, and others, that something at the hardware level with the camera is being addressed and has required additional R&D and manufacturing considerations. If the issue was something like a battery or FCC approval, I don’t see the harm in just saying that in a press release and getting on with things.

Will the camera hit retailers in June? For the moment I don’t have an answer, I haven’t heard anything from major retailers about availability in a long time.

Food for thought….

That’s a 44x Zoom

IQ sure drop one but if it's for compact, it's acceptable.

I think Canon want to challenge Nikon's superzoom compact.. forgot what model, but IIRC it's 35mm equivalent focal length also over 1k mm :bsmilie:

The info on 1dx being passed out is pretty accurate. At least locally. We just got the cams today. But will be getting production units when it is launched. The actual reason is not known though and the images will not be allowed to be shared as well for the time being. Next week gonna give it a good workout. I still love my 5d3 though. Hahahahaha!!!!!

quick snap with my phone before rushing home. TGIF!!!

OMG pictures allowed?

Even the pre-production ones at CS anniversary event had all Canon logo black-taped off.

Odds & Ends – Mirrorless [CR1]

June 1, 2012

A bit more mirrorless
There’s a general consensus that a mirrorless entry from Canon is coming in the month of June. I was told this week to expect a “well specced” mirrorless camera and a “couple” of lenses. Again, no mention of the mount.

Another mentioned not to expect a “pro” level mirrorless right away, but there are plans for a higher end model or two in the coming 12 months.

There will apparently be two “significant” announcements in June, we still suspect it will be the Rebel and a couple of lenses.

So brace for more releases in June.............................

Now... where is the gun??? With Canon launching like this, robbing the bank also cannot keep up!!! :bsmilie:

Yup I was aware about the first part. I was there to try out the cam, the CF card slots are sealed, Canon logo was taped, any any symbols or wordings that identifies the unit as 1DX was all black taped. The Canon representative says as it's pre-production model, all the wordings taped and CF card slot has to be sealed to prevent leakage of images shot on 1DX.

Is it cos the IQ so damn TOKONG, and they want to VANQUISH NIKON, SONY in one swoop????

IF not, why they are so uptight about it???

If it is lousy, no need to be so uptight right???????
