what are your views between these 2 flashes..? don't seem to see much Metz flash on a Nikon system..

help..! want to buy flash but was told by a colleague to try Metz..anyone can give feedback on Metz? is it a better buy than Nikon SB 900?

if u can afford get the sb900/910 else get the lower end nikon sb700
just get a nikon for nikon system

From my personal point of view (based on research, not practice), Metz 58 AF2 recycles slower than I suppose SB 900 and I heard it cant do high speed sync in master mode if Im not mistaken. Build quality is not as good as SB 900. If looking for master flash, I will consider AF1 or SB 800. SB 800 dont have power cut off like SB 900. Or are you looking for basic flash?

yup, looking for basic flash for travel, outdoor n indoor potrait shots, and night shots..any recommendation..? is the SB900 too overkill..?

No. Get the best that is within your budget and no flash is overkill. Sometime you need the power, the recycling speed and so on and so for... and if the flash has it, it has it, if it didn't has that, it didn't has.

If I were you, I would jump in and get the SB910 if my budget allows.

The only problem with the SB 900 / 910 is the size. Really large, compared to the rest. Can't deny that it is an excellent performer though.

Service support for Metz(SG) is a long way before Nikon...

Nikon(SG) will service the flash in much faster way then Metz(SG).

Just pray that u get a good set of Metz, else the servicing will tired u down.
*Personally i bring my metz flash(54MZ4) all the way to HK for checking and turns out to beyond economical repair, thus just sitting in dry cab.

Its not overkill actually, i started with cheaper nissin di622 until i know what i am doing, and then the second flash i got is master flash. My friend is using yongnuo 565ex, no proble

If starting out, u can consider nissin and yongnuo. Nikon flash is not bad, i heard the CLS function is useful, i cant give more detail about that cos im not using nikon.

Happy researching.

i would go for the nikon sb 700 for compact size and smaller budget , sb 900 910 if u can afford as nikon have many adv like remote flash , high sync, and metering is very good

Yes 900/910 will b overkill for 9.5/10 users, most wil not use it full power anyways.
Sb700 has functions same as 900/910 except if u require external batt pack?

Compare their size and decide which? Some kiasu and then realize too big to bring out 'in case' u nd it..lol

hmmm, what I want is just basic flash..if it's small n compact, it would be great for travelling..and if that's the case, SB 700 seem to be a better choice..

yes. the SB700 is much compact... it is still heavy mind you. :p

There's of course the SB 400 as well. :)
I use a SB 400 plus a link cord.

will u shoot events in the future?
SB900/910 is definitely must have in such situation!

There is just simple thing, you paid for strong light works.

To be compare as SB-700 & SB-900
Both I have it and just notice about SB-900 can be cover more far away.

If the SB-700 only cover nearest distance, but Handle quite well as lightweight design for budget used, also suit me the macro shoot as well.

If got event in bigger hall sure I will carry the SB-900 for shot up the higher ceiling and cover all the space.

If the SB-700 the result not as good for used in bigger area, in the hotel room, HDB or small place yes..
Good enough.

For one, SB900/910 is more powerful and can balance with ambient/daylight better...

for two, SB900/910 cycles so much faster...

for three, SB900/SB9100 can light things up further.

depending u use which nikon body, SB900/910 communicates best.

also consider the user-friendliness of the interface and controls.

I also like the post above, where it says cycles so much faster.
You will vomit blood if you use 2-battery flash for m43 system.
The recycle time is around 7 secs, and u and your subjects can die waiting for it to be ready for next shot.
U can see alot of sian faces by then.
(i wont even wait if i were them)

TBH... SB-700 is a little overkill for macro...
And as for big area, even SB-900 won't be able to cover that much...
You can bounce the light to light up your subjects, but the event hall will need the ambient light and ur ISO to brighten up.
