I am having issues with my EF 24-70 2.8L Lens which keeps giving me error 1 message when I set it at around Aperature F11 and at 60mm
Works perfectly when I set it at F2.8 and zoomed in or out.
Using the same lens on another body isolate the problem and cleaning the contact point with clean eraser did not work.

I made a phone call to Canon to check how much it would cost me to replace the contact point and the verbal quote is at $200.
When I check the contact points, I can't spot any dirt or damage on it. Could it be firmware issue or something?

Any advice?

Your blade unit is jammed... Cost around 200-250. I have this prob b4

I see .. thats a probabilty too. Think my little pocket will have holes.
Does the 200 - 250 includes the service cost of $120?
I google about error 1, seems like a common problem such as 3rd party battery, dirty/faulty contact points or firmware.

Anyway since they are opening up my lens, would canon perform simple cleaning of the lens for me?

Depends on how deep .... it is aren't broke don't fix it.... I have a ribbon prob which i discover 1 year later after they replace. My aperature will always be F0 in my EXIF. They change the whole barrel for me FOC. Lucky.....

You can bring it down to CSC at Harbourfront to allow the technician to inspect the lens and get a quotation for the service.

yup I brought it down to Canon Service Centre.
Hope it won't cost me a bomb to repair.

I got my lens fixed for $147 (which $100+ is service fee and GST)
Not so bad.. i got calibration done and basic cleaning for my lens :)

I had this issue with my Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 VC before also :(

wats is the issue ah?

some component is spoilt inside the lens .. I forgot what the component is called.
Let me check my invoice and update here :)

Oh I am about to buy a 2nd hand lens. Let us know what component is spoiled

To Check:
Set to low aperture setting (F16-F22) and press the camera's DOF preview button. Check the lens if the aperture close down as you press the DOF preview button.

Cause:

Yellow arrow shows the movement of zoom ring
Green arrow shows the flexible cable
Red circle shows point of impact

After the USM was removed

The damage

The fix:
Since it's troublesome to replace only the cable, the whole EMD is replaced
Technical Room - EMD

For 3rd party repair, the fix is usually just to replace the cable.
